Great... now I have a contained leak!!

I started feeling horrible last monday... went to my primary doctor and had test ran on tuesday and wednesday... it freaked her out and she shipped me off to my surgeon on Thursday. My surgeon immediately sent me over to the ER... had so many test run and my labs were horrible and yup my upper gi showed a contained leak! IM MISERABLE! this is a HUGE set back for me... IDC that ive lost 32 pounds in just a month.... Its discouraging that this Thursday I would have been able to start my pureed foods.... And now im looking at nothing by mouth for four weeks. My stomach is growling, im nauseated, miserable, tired, angry, sad, etc. Upon going to my primary doctor & surgeon I was having horrible panic attacks, couldnt keep anything down, couldnt stand on my own for any period of time, and couldnt walk anywhere I had to be wheeled! IM MISERABLE AND DISCOURAGED!!!!


Has anyone else had this happen to them?!

I haven't had it happen but I did want to say that I am sorry you are having to go through this. I hope you are on the mend soon. I understand your frustration about wanted to start pureed foods, I am so sick of liquids! Just remember this is just a small blimp in the rest of your life and before you know it you will be progressing to pureed foods and solid foods. I wish you the best of luck.

Eek...that is really awful. I guess your weight loss will likely be pretty cool, though? Sorry to try and put a cheerful spin on this...and also, anxiety attacks SUCK. I totally get that! Seriously, like feel free to message me and just complain about them, because I am telling you, I KNOW anxiety attacks. Did I mention they suck? take care, girl...

Look on the bright side... It could have been much worse. They found the problem quickly and they are fixing it. I know it sucks and I would HATE it too but sometimes you have to remember how lucky you are. I'm only 5 weeks out and I have the galbladder fear... I don't want it to happen but it just might and I hope I'm lucky enough to have Dr's catch it in time to make my life longer and healthier.

I couldnt keep anything down, I was SO tired I couldnt even stay awake... I couldnt walk... Couldnt stand for very long... I honestly felt like I was dying. My doctor said that some people dont even know when it happens to them...

I am sorry that you are going through this right now and I hope that it heals quickly! What is a contained leak versus a leak? It sounds a little better yet still very serious and I wish you the very best! Please keep us posted there are people on here that have gone through this that can really help you and the rest of us will give you lots of moral support.

a contained leak is kind of like a pouch that is still sealed but its thin enough to burst open to be a leak. it hadnt completely healed yet.... from my understanding atleast. he drew a picture for me haha.

So sorry you're going through this, but glad they didn't mess around and got you into the hospital ASAP. Hope they get you all fixed up and back on your way to recovery and losing weight!! HUGS!!

That is a bit of a relief yet still very scary. You were very smart to get the doctor before it became a full on leak. Hopefully you will heal quickly but don't be discouraged if it takes a little time. It's definitely not something to mess with! Best wishes for you!
