One year ago, I checked into a hotel in San Diego. For my birthday, I had restaurant chicken broth because I was on a clear liquids in preparation for the following day's surgery. I was to travel the next day to Mexico for a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. I was 236 lbs, 5 foot 4 inches, and 46 years old.
Today, exactly 1 year later, I am at home. I will be going out to dinner with my family for my birthday dinner at an Italian steakhouse, probably ordering a glass of wine and some Osso Bucco (which will provide me with at least 3 dinners). I am now 133 lbs, still 5 foot 4 inches, and 47 years old.
I wish I had done this years ago. I have found "me" again. I have also worked through a lot of self-image issues and come out stronger.
My next job is to work on my insides. I have lost my excess weight but now I will slowly work towards getting myself fit and healthy. My youngest daughter (9 yo) will be helping me. She and I will start Tai Chi classes, once per week, in September, plus we will do some exercises in the YMCA gym whilst the twins are taking Junior Lifesaving. I will eventually build on that, but baby steps for now.
