I operate a busy womans boutique and see some customers just at this time of the year because they vacation in this area. I am open about my surgery....it's starting to be a little annoying all the questions of...so you feel okay, are you throwing up do you have energy? And some all around nosiness. It seems to the general public...if you had w l s you have complications and terrible side effects..and it takes some job on my part convincing them otherwise. I am very polite and super friendly in the shop because obviously it makes for better business but sometimes I just feel like saying....of course I feel better...I dropped a crap load of weight!

Lea - I'm crazy private, so I haven't told anyone to date about my upcoming surgery. Sorry you're catching unwanted attention. I guess the season's almost over, but perhaps just tell them about your improved diet and exercise, and omit mention of your sleeve.

That probably because the people who get the most press about these surgeries whine about the smallest of things. And we all know how most of the public like to hear only the bad stuff. One of my friends will not listen to any positive about it...thus I just quit talking to her about it.

This is one of the reasons I haven't told a whole lot of people. I feel when I tell them, they feel that it's an open invitation to discuss me and my weight. And I just don't feel like talking about it 24/7.

I have to say is good to be open but if u dont like the question just keep the sleeve a secret and juat talk about new eating habits and exercise.

Part of the reason I started telling people, other than it was hard to lie, was because I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Dec 2011. I knew people would wonder if the weight loss was cancer related or if I was intentionally trying to lose weight. But, now I always get the "how much have you lost" and I just tell them a "crap ton". (my kids favorite description of a BUNCH! LOL ) I'm not about to divulge THOSE numbers, but I will tell them I went from a size 18 to a 4. Proof that surgery was a success.

Unless they have researched WLSs, they just don't understand how surgery works. The only stories they have to go on are the over dramatized crap they see on TV. It's no wonder they don't know what's going on.
