Diabetes Resolution

Question for diabetics who have had the gastric sleeve.

Did the surgery resolve or improve your diabetes?

I am currently taking Glucovance, Byetta, and Lantus for my diabetes along with Lopid, a diuretic, a cholesterol medication and Altace to protect my kidneys.

My main hope is that this surgery will help me lose the weight so I can stop taking all (or most) of these meds.

What has been your experience?

My doctor here at home recommended that I have the surgery and that it would help me come off my meds, if it stims from weight and not hereditary. Well congratulations our surgery on the same day!

I WAS on Lantus, Humalog and Glucophage along with a water pill and 4 DIFFERENT BP pills my monthy copay were $160.00 just for meds after my sleeve I am off the insulins one glucophage mid day (looking to get off that too) and 2 "maintance" BP meds I have lost 96+ ilbs since 12/2010...... BIG HIGH 5 you will be surprised at what will happen to you and how will you are going to feel Congrat to YOU!!!! and God Bless

My surgeon also had a sleeve himself and is off his diabetes meds completely (shares this in the informational seminar). Good luck!

I had type II diabetes before I got my sleeve. In hospital on day 3, when they tested my blood sugar, it 6.6. I have been off all diabetic meds since surgery and last week my level was 5.5. Apparently this is very common. Good luck !!
