Hello my sleeve family! I've been sleeved 6 days now and am feeling better day by day! The first 4 were definitely the worst. I spent this week just resting up and trying to heal. I am still sore and tender in my belly button due to the single incision procedure but that is to be expected. I am so glad I did it. Absoulutely no regrets, even with all the pain and frustration of not being able to take but a couple of sips of a drink before I feel pain. I guess because I know that as I am healing I will be able to drink more in due time. Tummy is still very swollen. Drinking fluids are literally a full time job. I have had my experience of taking too big of a sip a few times and it is NOT FUN!! When that happens I start to feel the liquid work its way back up my esophagus, my mouth starts to water and I break out in a cold sweat trying to fight vomiting. It's awful! But with each day of practicing how to work my sleeve it's happening less and less.
My experience in Mexico was like a total luxury vacation! I went by myself and it was a well needed week long getaway from my 2 wonderful teenagers (if you know what I mean). The weather in Tijuana was absoulutely perfect. 73 degrees and sunny. So much better than the 90 degree humid weather that I left in Kentucky. I absoulutely loved my surgeon, Dr. Diaz. I will highly recommend him. He had some of the best bedside manner I have ever experienced. He literally sits down on the side of your bed and talks to you about how things went, what to expect and gives you great advise on how to make your journey as easy as possible. He made sure that I had his phone number and email so that I can reach him at any time I had any questions. Much better than any American doctors that I have come across. Just so real and down to earth and handles you with tender care. Can't say enough about him.
Anyway! I have not weighed myself believe it or not. Mainly because I know that I was pumped full of fluid for 3 days, 24 hours a day. My fingers looked like sausages when I left the hospital to the wonderful Marriott they set me up in. I probably will weigh myself on Monday so see if I have at least broke even with the weight of 204 that I was when I arrived. Oh yeah! My doctor sent me home with a DVD copy of my leak test. That was so neat to see the size of my stomach as I watch the fluid go down my esophagus and fill up my little sleeve. No leak, yay! Boy is my stomach tiny! No wonder I can only fit a few sips at a time!
Well, I'm happy to now be back home and wanted to thank you guys for all the well wishes that you sent me. I will keep you posted on my progress. I wish everyone luck on there up coming surgeries. Don't worry, it will all be alright in the end. As long as you are prepared to experience the soreness and maybe even some vomitting after surgery. It will soon pass and every day does get better. I promise.
I'm so very happy to finally be on the otherside!!!
