    Default My Hair!!!

So i had my surgery Feb 27 and I didn't have any hairloss until June now I have thinned so much it's scaring me. Luckily I have very thick hair so nobody seems to notice except me because its freaking me out. I lose a great amount when I'm shampooing and then again when I brush my hair out!! I have takin Biotin since about 4 weeks after surgery but its not really helping. Is this ever going to stop and will my hair that I lost grow back? Somebody help!! On a good note I am almost 5 months out and down 81 pounds other than my hair going down the drain I am sooooo happy and glad I made the choice to have my sleeve

I am just starting this journey but I have done a lot of research, and from what I'm reading folic acid, like with prenatal vitamins, and fish oil apparently do a lot to help with the hair loss. My hair is fairly thin to begin with so that is one of my concerns, but the general consensus is that it will let up and start growing back.
Many congrats to you on your progress. Positive stories are an inspiration to those of us just starting out.

Biotin only helps oil get absorbed. When we diet like this we eat much less oil & fat then ever before and that can cause hair loss. Iron also can be low. Iron and fish oil are really essential if you don't want hair loss. Folic acid help it grow faster. Wiki low iron and you will see that dark circles under eyes (like many sleevers) and hair loss are the main symptoms. Don't try to take an iron pill, it's really hard to absorb. Liquid iron taken with vit c (help iron absorb) & make sure you eat veggies when you're taking iron will prevent you from the terrible constipation that the pills cause.

Thank god for thick hair. The loss of hair is temporary, and it will grow back.

Monistat. I had hair past my butt, but got sick of clogging the drain, so I just chopped it off. Lost about 30 inches of hair. :-( I have yet to see a bald post-op person (except dudes that had already had male-pattern baldness.) It's traumatic, yes, I agree.

At some point you didn't eat enough protein, you have to have at least 60 grams per day. Your hair falls out a month or so after the deficiency. You need to eat more protein and your hair will grow back, just takes time. Luckily I had zero hair loss, because I followed the doctor and the dietician's instructions and so far I've lost over 100 lbs.

My nutritionist told me the same thing, but I followed instructions to the letter and still lost hair.

My doc (and several web references) said it's from the drastic cut in calories... just our bodies response to that and it's way of "hanging on" to nutrients for other purposes. Mine kicked in 4 months post-op and is starting to let up some now. I took biotin since before surgery - did it help? Who knows! Maybe would have been worse without it! But yes, get your protein in, iron, and I heard zinc as well. It is freaky and worrisome, but everyone I've talked to said it will pass! Good luck!

My doc told me that I was going to lose it anyways whether I ate enough protein or not that it was a part of the bodies reaction to rapid weight loss but I wasn't expecting as much and was getting scared that my hair was not gonna come back

It' true, we lose our hair due to the drastic cut in calories. It's a shock to the body. Oil protects everything, the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the joints, skin & hair, the body thinks it's still getting fat and doesn't have such a shock reaction. Take your fish oil people!
