Default When is it ok to start exercising?

I am 8 days post op and really want to start back at the gym. It is 100 degrees outside so walking is hard to do. When is it safe to do a treadmill and bike? Also, what about small weights? I am determined to lose 60 pounds by Christmas!

I think everyone is different. The only thing i couldnt do right away was heavy lifting but walking at a brisk pace should be ok for now

I would imagine you could walk on the treadmill, just move into it slowly. SInce you were walking in the hospital, it can't be too bad for you. Just be careful to stay hydrated!

I was told just walking for the 1st 6 weeks. If on a treadmill....leave it flat, no incline. I was advised not to lift anything over 5-10 lbs for the same 6 weeks. Good way to judge, a gallon of milk is 8lbs.

I was told walking was ok right away. No heavy lifting (anything over 10 lbs for 6 weeks and no intense work outs for 6 weeks. Every Dr. is different, check with yours.

My Doc approved me to ride my bike after my 1 week post op. I know everyone is different so ask your DR. I have been riding my bike 5-7 miles each day and havent had any issues. I wouldnt do much weight lifting or any Core exercises so soon... but I plan to at week 3.

    Good Luck!!
