    Default Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, its a secret!

Ok, so heres the deal. I have chosen to ONLY tell my BFF and my husband about my upcoming surgery. Thats my choice and Im sticking to it. Heres my question, will people notice that Im losing weight fast do you think and..............how do I respond??? Eeeeeks, for others that Im not around that often I dont care to simply say that Im getting to a healthier me thru diet and excercise. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, like Im at my inlaws every Sunday for dinner. How will I explain eating only a few bites???? I truly do not want to reveal anything about my gastric sleeve. Another friend that I see often will know "somethings up!" I dont want to liem I just dont want to reveal the WHOLE truth!

Your thoughts, without me lying to anyone.

    Thanks, Bambi

Hi Bambi .... I didn't tell anyone except my husband.
At work I made it known that my eating and exercise regimen was changing and that I was seeing a metabolic physician and dietician (all true).
Pre-op I lost 45 pounds..... Now I eat exactly as I did pre-op do nothing has changed. I told one person I was having gallbladder problems and that covered my 2 weeks off. I am now just over 60 pounds down and it is great.
We don't need the input (or judgements of others). There are many on the forum who have made similar choices .... Good luck

There is only about 6 people know that I'm having the sleeve. I am having a hiatal hernia repaired which is "why" I will be off work. I've been on som many diets over the years that I can tell everybody that I finaly found one that works, healthy eating with exercise. I just don't want to have to explain to everybody what I've done & why. My husband is going to on Nutri-Systems when I start my pre-op diet (he lost 70lbs on it before) so when we both start loosing folks will really start to talk.

That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck to you.

Hi if you read one of my Blogs you will see i had a problem a few days after my surgery.
A family member made a post on Facebook saying i had had my operation no details but my school friend who is out spoken saw it as she is friends with my family. In the first place she told me it was not the way to lose weight! I told her " That all i needed was her support as it was too late i had made the decision and done it"
People how ever well meaning they are, want to give you the benefit of their opinion and yes you are right not to share. I learnt this straight away.. just a few trusted friends and family know and there are many excuses you can make...ie i have just eaten.. is a really good one. Really its none of anybodys business but yours you don't have to explain to anyone- Not hungry is another!
Good luck with your surgery and journey

My journey will be private and only between me and the members of this site and my surgeon and his team. I have tried twice to tell my dieting buddy and close friend of 30 years of my decision but she is adamant that it will not work. As I get closer to the date, I am enjoying the excitement not only of a new lease on life but realizing it IS a private journey FOR ME and only ME. I am happy to have a secret weapon!

my best to you on your journey! May you always be happy and confident!

Sadly I chose to tell people and I wish I wouldn't have! All I keep hearing is "How much have you lost?" It hasn't even been two weeks, they could give me a little time to lose. My big worry is, What if this isn't successful for me? Then I have to explain to everyone how even with surgery that I still couldn't lose. I truly wish I would have taken the route that you have. With the experiences I'm having already, it seems as though I have more to explain with everyone knowing.

It's really sad that people feel that it's ok to give input to something they know nothing about. I took the route that I would be open about what choices I made for MY life. People don't understand what it's like to continue to yoyo diet have great success and loose it in A matter of months sometimes weeks they don't understand the the very real health risks involved in being consistently over weight. People will never understand the ridicule experienced of constant knee and back pain and other ailments associated with being extremely over weight. And not even talk about the comments and looks from others.

I stand for me and if there are those that don't understand that the purpose of this surgery is to get my life back can really kiss my you know what. I am fortunate that my family and friends fully supported my decision. And if they didn't they knew they better keep that negativity to themselves. Good luck it must be hard to hide something that literally saved your life. My twenty cents. Bigs have more than two. Lol.

You have to remain positive and believe in you. You can do this and you will. I ask those that ask me how much have you lost into weeks? You will be surprise how the questions will slow down. My manicurist told me she could tell I lost 20 pounds. I told her let me know when you can. Lol.

When you are ready, you will know who and when to tell. I went to my fiance's family's 4th of July BBQ and everyone made comment. When I was asked; how I lost my weight, I said NOTHING and flexed my bicep. Nuf said...LOL no one questioned except what types of exercises I am doing. I told them and gave the credit to my fiance who has been exercising with me.

I, too, have chosen to tell my BFF and my husband. My husband is 100% supportive. He is willing to take over my household duties while I am recovering. My BFF is my friend from HS. She lives about an hour and a half from me but we talk several times a week, I wish I could say she is 100% on board but she is not. I'm sure she will be supportive in the end but all she was negative about it at first. As a matter of fact she has avoided the subject since I told her except once I mentioned that I had an appointment and all she said was "oh, you're still going through with it?" I do not plan to tell family. They would not be supportive.

As for explaining my weightloss, I have already told local friends that I am seeing a weightloss specialist and a nutritionist. And that I am going on a high protein low calorie and low carb diet. As for exercise, I will be walking. Thats all. And I figure no one will miss me for a week recouperating. I work per diem so I just womt work for a few weeks. Since I have a few per diem jobs, I will just say I am working one of the other jobs. They won't even question it.

I have told some people. Most say good for you and I hope you do well. My friends who know I have struggled with back and neurological problems aggravated by my weight are hoping I succeed. My family wishes I didn't have to go through surgery to get to where I need to be. I recently had to tell my daughter that no, just going on a liquid diet won't help me lose over 100 lbs. I know myself, just like Oprah, I would start eating again and gain it all back. Casual friends are being told nothing or hernia repair which won't be a lie. All my other Doctors have been my biggest cheerleaders. They all know me from work too. I recently heard my nephew was considering lap band and I am hoping that my success will help him make the decision between that or sleeve. Good luck to you. The "lie by omission" may not catch up with you or maybe it will. But ultimately, this is your body to do with what you want. It is none of anyone elses business.

I chose to let everyone know. The only one that didnt approve was my older sister. She fears i might get sick or the side effects. I figured when I go back to work or to a family members all the questions on how i lost the weight would be too much. Im not ashamed or embarassed of what im going to do, and neither should you. Theres always going to be opinions but what counts is what you think and whats best for you.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I've had to take a lot of time off work for doctor's appointments (my surgeon is 2 hours away). I told my closest friends and my boss and that's it. Well, my family knows, but they don't count, I live with my mom and my sister and we're all getting it done. My sister is actually having her surgery the same day as me. I'm just telling everyone that I'm dieting and working out really hard. Especially since at least twice a week someone brings cookies or muffins or cake into the office. (It really is ridiculous.) When they started asking about my portions I just told them I have a nutritionist planning my meals.
Diet and exercise, it's not a lie, just not the whole truth.
