    Default Protein Shakes

What brand of protein shakes does everyone use? What are the best flavors and how much do they cost? When I showed my nutritionist what I had bought she told me that it was wrong for after surgery but fine for my pre-op diet. The brand is Body Fortress chocolate flavor and it tastes absolutely disgusting!!! I'm scared to even try the vanilla one now. Can everyone please give me some suggestions so that my meals after surgery will be a pleasant experience instead of me dreading meal time.

I use MuscleTech and Premier Protein, in chocolate. They are pretty good. EAS is also good tasting.

I also use Premier protein from Costco they're premixed shakes and he box has 18 for $24.99...... they're a little more then buying a bag of protein but I like being able to open and drink and no mixing involved. And my surgeon said he wanted me on these or Bariatric Advantage which is double the price. Good like finding what your body likes.

I've tried a bunch of them -- some pre-op but many more post-op. My NUT said that my tastes would change post surgery and she was so right about that. I was glad that I didn't stock up on one flavor but had many from many different brands to try. Everybody is a little different so my best advice to is try to find a store in your area or online to buy a bunch of the sample packets from to try both pre-op and post-op. I've done well with some of the Jay Robb protein powders and Nectar brands but the sugar alcohol in some of the flavored stuff does not sit well with my system.

I like Matrix. I like the orange cream flavor the best, and they have several versions of chocolate. I like the vanilla too because I can add fresh fruit to it. I DON'T like the strawberry flavor, but that's just me.

I get them online. SmartNutrition and SupplementWarehouse.com sell them, as do other companies. I try to find the best deal including shipping. Because my state charges tax if I buy it from a seller in my state, I try to find one that isn't in my state.

Pure Protein comes in a can - I like the flavors mint chocolate, cookies and cream, and banana cream. I buy them online. I love Premier Protien chocolate the best. I buy them at Sams Club. I also like the EAS Carb Control dark chocolate which I buy at Walmart. I go through phases where I love one for a while and then don't care for it. I notice I also enjoy a change in texture. The EAS carb control are very thin and easy to drink, but I also enjoy the sugar free carnation instant breakfast shakes which are thick and taste more like a shake.

Hi there! My center/doctors are very picky about the type of protien as well. They told me to get Carnation instant breakfast no sugar. How easy is that. Who thought it would something so simple. I had gone out and bought all kinds of stuff as well.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try the Premier protein out. And I also will try the variety packs out to see which ones I can deal with. I really want to be settled by the time my surgery comes around.

I use - EPIQ™ Isolate - Vanilla. It gets a little thick depending on what you use with it. Coconut milk made it thick, almond milk and it thinned out..But, I use water because it has such a wonderful flavor itself and it is nice and thin. I use the vanilla because I feel it is the most versatile, I can make it any flavor I want, even chocolate. My favorite is adding about 1/2 tbs of SF-FF banana pudding mix into my shake...Mmm

Oh, I think at GNC I get it for around 80 bucks for 50 servings and with GNC if you don't like it you can return it and get your money back, assuming you don't use half the container of course..heh

I gag on most protein powders, but found a few really tasty ones with no/low carbs:
**EAS- Chocolate & Vanilla (bought from Sams' Club)
**Syntax Nectar- Cappuccino & Lemon Tea (bought at Vitamin Shoppe on internet)

I am a big fan of the EAS chocolate and Syntax Cappuccino!

Have any of you tried Labrada Lean Body premixed shakes? Any comments on the brand? I found them at Vitamin Shoppe and at Walmart

I have been ordered sample sizes of protein powders so I can find one that will work for me when I am at that point.

This morning, I had a Syntrax Nectar (Latte flavor) with 12 oz. of milk. Absolutely delish and it kept me full for about 3 hours.

I have heard really good things about their other flavors as well as Unjury stuff (which I have but haven't tried yet).

Let us know what work for you when you find that right one!

    Hi JerseyGur1,
I tried probably 15 or 16 different kinds of protein shakes. I found for me, the best was CVS brand Whey Protein. I like the vanilla better than the chocolate, which was a surprise to me. I also prefer the powder. The pre-mixed ones were to thick for me and made me sick. They sell individual servings to try them. The big container is under $20. I am now 7 days post-op and can still drink them with no problem.
    Good Luck.
    Lisa
