    Default Very Worried

I weighed 233lbs. on the day of my surgery. My highest weight was 247 lbs. I had my sleeve done on June 8th, 2011 and have lost a total of 13 lbs. Why am I worried? I lost those 13 lbs. the first week, and haven't lost an ounce since then. What's going on????? I thought I would have lost more. Nurse and Dietician say to give it time, to start walking, have an extra protein shake. Just don't understand. I'm practically eating nothing. I've talked to others, who have had surgery, and they've said they never stopped losing weight until about 9-10 months after. Why have I plateaued so quickly?

That may be the problem. If you're not intaking the correct amount of protien/calories, your body will go into starvation mode and start to store all of the fat for energy. Does that make sense? Maybe try upping it to one more shake a day, or even trying some protien rich foods with meals, like beans. Another thing my nutritionist suggested was to start juicing, because you will get a lot of the protien and nutritients your body needs. I'm wishing you the best of luck~!

jdavido is correct ... you should be getting at LEAST 64 ounces of fluid into your body EVERY DAY, with 70g of protein EVERY DAY and slowly graduate your calories up.

What are you eating? What stage of food are you on? Are you measuring your foods?

I accidentally starved myself for almost a month before I realized I wasn't putting enough calories into my body for it to feel as though it could burn the fat ... I plateaued about 2 weeks out from surgery, then again at 6 weeks (that one was a BITCH ... took almost 3 weeks to get past it).

Use something like sparkpeople.com to track how much of everything you are putting into your mouth and how much exercising you are doing ... are you eating enough calories in a day?

Not sure if I'm getting enough calories. Decided to write my intake down. I'm gonna try to get an extra protein shake and hopefully it'll help get more calories and ultimately get these pounds off. Dana - glad to know i'm not the only one this has happened to.

You hit the nail on the head! You're barely eating anything and your body thinks you're starving so it will hold on to EVERYTHING! Add calories to your diet so you can jump start your weight loss again. I went through the same issue and thought people were crazy when they told me the same thing about the calories...but oddly enough, it works!

I did the same thing you did. So have a lot of others on this forum. Everyone loses differently. If you check back with older posts many, many people have plateaued at about the same place you are. I have been sleeved for 6 months and my weight loss pattern is still the same. I lose 4 or 5 pounds in 6 ot 7 days, then, I do not lose anything for a week or longer...no matter what I do to speed this process along. I have now lost 94 pounds, so something is working for me. Try not to focus so much on the scale. I know that is easier said than done. Remember, you have lost 13 pounds in one month! When have you ever done that before? Give yourself a pat on the back, you are doing wonderfully.

I feel your pain. I am was sleeved on the 14th. I am stuck too. I realized I wasn't getting in enough protein when I started writing everything down this week. I have upped the protein, but am still struggling with the liquid. Seems there is not enough room for both. I decided today that I would not sit my water bottle down. I am carrying until I get the liquid in. Next week I'm going to be smiling at the scales instead of kicking them like this week!lol. Luckily, I had measured myself when I started my pre-op diet on 5/3. When I measured I had lost 62.5 inches. So if you didn't measure yourself before do it now. Then when you can't see the scale move, you will see the movement of the tape measure!!! Hope the stall breaks soon for both of us!

Just remember that it will all be okay down the road. As long as you lose and never gain the weight back, that's a great accomplishment. Before the sleeve surgery I would lose 3 lbs. and then gain 5 lbs. back. Now that's frustrating! Your body has to be holding on to it's weight; because, it is in starvation mode. That happened to me in the beginning. As each day goes by, you will be able to eat more food and drink more liquids. Hang in there. We are all rooting for you my fellow sleever. LOL...Bonnie

@ Bonnie thank you so much. YOu are right..... I'm going to stay the course. No other choice...... LOL. But I'm glad I did it. I would have never been able to lose this amount of weight on my own. Thanks.

As long as it goes down and doesn't come back up is a win/win in my book.
Also don't know who you were talking to that said they didn't stop losing for NINE months... Not going to call them out right liars... but severely mistaken
