I guess this is just a side effect of gastric sleeve surgery, but did you experience a change to your sense of taste after gastric sleeve surgery??? I used to love sweet things like hard candy and preserved fruits, but now I can't stand them!!!

I had a craving for savory, or salty foods after my operation for about 6 months or so, anything sweet made me sick.
That feeling slowly reduced and now i can eat / enjoy sweet foods again, although I am careful what I do eat, and the amount as just a little is nice but if I ate too much sweet / rich foods, it kinda makes me feel queasy.
Mine was french fries. I love me some french fries, but now...not so much. I bet it has a lot to do with our chemistry make-up changing.
I do think that this is common. What changed for me was my cravings. I used to crave for different kinds of food, but after my sleeve, it was like I don't crave for them at all. No change in taste for me though.
I really thought this was because of the sleeve, but I couldn't sip soda after my sleeve. I just found it disgusting. Wasn't really much of a soda fan before, but after my sleeve, I realized that I couldn't even stand the smell of Coke or Pepsi!
Big time change immediately. There were these Sobe drinks I liked and now I can't stand them. I can't stand any of the protein drinks and I couldn't take the chewable vitamins.
I didn't go through a change of taste, but I would agree on the cravings. It seems that I was less hungry post-op.
That's interesting to hear. I didn't experience either cravings or change in taste. Hey Mommabear, for me the bubbles are just a bit uncomfortable and I generally can't eat anything until they're gone.
cheers

I have only had a small sips of diet coke. I really miss my diet cokes but know I should not be drinking it. It did not bother me but I did limit to a very small amount. Many things do taste differently. Sweet things seem to be very sweet to me now and some give an after taste. Isn't it weird how that happens? I wonder if it is because certain hormones housed in the stomach are taken out. I am never hungry as well but I have heard that eventually after a year the body will compensate in other area's to produce those hormones and hunger does come back.

A note on cokes. You should really limit yourself to one or two diet cokes a day. It's bad for the sleeve it stretches out your pouch. One way to take out the bubbles is to add one or two packages of low calorie sugar substitute to it. The air bubbles or gas in the soda will dispensate.
yea I use to not like sweets now i would reather eat them then food scary
I used to love drinking water, now I dislike the taste of it and I am having a hard time drinking enough, I have tried almost everything to put flavor but still hate it...so I basically have to force myself to drink enough water.
That's about it when it comes to change in taste.
Fried foods and sweets also don't taste the same...I don't know why, but it's good though coz that keeps me away of those
