    Default A couple of Questions...

I was sleeved on 5/22 and I have a couple of questions. With the sleeve, what is the recommended calories we should consume in a day? Also, I am having a hard time telling when my new stomach is actually hungry or full. Will this get better with time? Thanks so much for any help/advice given!!

I was told not to even think about calories at this point. You couldn't eat possibly even near what you used to to gain. Your focus right now needs to be on getting your fluids and protein

I understand that at this point. I'm wondering about a general figure for years and months down the road.

its not about calories but more about protein and liquid intake untill you start eating regularly about 6-8 weeks .

The one time you over eat you will know . it feels as if your going to die lol put mildly. at least the only time i did it thats what it felt like.. my heart pounded in my chest i felt like i got an immediate fever felt nauseated and it lasted about 10-15 minutes till it went away.

it will take time to get to know your new tummy my first sign when drinking the protein shakes is it started feeling like it doesnt go all the way down. or it gets a little harder to swallow. or my burps have to be pushed out rather then them coming up on there own.

My program set targets of 800 calories and 75 grams of protein per day. I'm just over 4 weeks out and I have a hard time meeting those targets. From what I've read on this site, there are as many different targets as there are doctors. Go with what your doctor recommends. When in doubt, consult your nutritionist.

For the hunger/full question. That will also differ for all of us. For the first two to three weeks I felt no hunger at all. Since then I have re-discovered those sensations. Not all of the time and not real strong, just enough to tell me that they are there. But FULL, wow, that doesn't take me long to get that feeling!! Last night I tried a cup, not a bowl mind you, just a cup of chili. Couldn't even finish it!!

Be warned!!!! Please follow your doctors advise and eat slowly. Give your stomach time to tell your brain it is full. If I eat too much too fast, I really feel miserable. Not dumping syndrome issues, but lesson learned.

Take your time, your new tummy will let you know what it is thinking!!

My information says approx. 500 calories and 60-70 grams of protein for the first year. It says that most people will be at 800-1000 by the end of the first year.

I'm one year and a week out and am eating about 1200 or 1300 cal a day. My doc is happy with that number long term. (We share the same surgery date albeit mine is one year earlier :-)) In the first month, I was lucky to get 400 or 500 calories. You won't necessarily feel hunger so you need to eat to heal. Also focus on the protein and liquids. Welcome to the best journey of your life!

Hi I am 6 months out and try to stay under 1,000 but some times could eat more if I don't watch. I log everything on myfitnesspal.com to make sure I don't go over. My nutritionist is happy with that number as I am pretty active and exercise 1 1/2 to 2 hours almost every day. But it will depend on your personal body needs. As far as feeling hungry or full - it is a learning process. I rarely feel hungry except my brain still tells me to eat more out of habit than actual hunger. My stomach is still very sensitive and lets me know I am full very quickly especially if the food is very dense. It is all a learning process that you will do well with if you just pay attention to what your stomach is feeling. Best wishes on your amazing journey to a healthier happier life.

I'm 5 months out & eat about 1,000 per day and get 60-80 gr of protein. I know a lot of people eat only 700-800 per day & have a hard time even getting that in. Since about 2 months out I can easily eat more than that so have to watch it. REALLY focusing on the protein first helps me stay within the 1,000 cal. As far as getting hungry...I tend to feel a bit faint or even dizzy when I'm overdue to eat especially if I'm doing anything physical (like yard work today). Also, just feeling empty can indicate you need to eat.

I was sleeved around the same time. I am not hungry at all but generally have my protein done by lunch time but set the alarm to eat x3 a day. It varies but I am trying to eat more protein where I can. Although I was told not to be concerned with calories at this time I am logging (My Fitness Pal) about 700 day

I am 8 months out and on average between 700 - 900 calories a day. I get in 100 grams of protein and average 6 -8oz bottles of water. I exercise daily and burn a min. of 300 cal per day.

This is a journey and it has been better than I could have ever imagined. Best Wishes!!!
