    Default Mercy! MRSA

The operation went well, and I came home with my little tummy and something I didn't expect, MRSA! I think I had heard of it before, but never gave it any mind. After self doctoring what I thought was a bad rash, I wasn't getting any better, so I went to the ER. Turns out it is MRSA. I am on two different oral antibiotics and went to the ER a second time for a recheck. Wasn't better so they gave me a third antibiotic through an IV. Still isn't cleared up. Will probably return to the ER tomorrow. This stuff is really nasty and highly infectious. I kinda feel like a leper. Funny, you have surgery to get healthy and come back with something even worse. Also funny, I was self pay, but was worried a Mexican hospital or clinic might not be clean enough, so I paid 3 times the money to go to one of the best hospitals in the state. Go figure. Hope this doesn't happen to you guys.

Hope you are feeling better soon. MRSA can happen anywhere, my husband had a bout as well. Oral antibiotics along with 10 days of home antibiotics infusions has cleared it up.

Good lucky to you and much success with your journey.

I hate you are having MRSA troubles. MRSA is an abbreviation for a type of bacteria. (my spelling is awful--Mythecillin Resistant Staphacaucua Areus) It can be picked up anywhere. It lives on the skin. You can be exposed if you touch something that was touched earlier by a MRSA carrier. In general it can live on our skin and we don't know or notice. People with chronic health problems that weaken their immune systems are more likely to have it. The skin exposure may clear up without treatment for some one with a heathy immune systems, It becomes a huge problem when it gets into your blood stream. That can happen when a surgical incision is made or you get a scrape or cut on our skin. Chances are you had MRSA living on your skin which then entered your body at the incision. It is difficult (almost impossible) to clean the skin of MRSA before surgery. ORs diligently clean the surgical area but MRSA and VRE are very difficult to "kill". Prior posters were correct, you usually end up with a multi-drug antibiotic treatment and it clears up.
