OMG. I've got 13 days until my surgery and I'm falling victim to binge eating. It's like I'm trying to subconsciously scarf down as much food before I get sleeved. How does one fight the urge? I really need a kick in the ass right now.
Well, I wouldn't put too much pressure on myself to "diet" right now, unless your doctor has specified that you need to lose weight before surgery.
Try getting sugar through fruit and use splenda to make yourself some sweets if you must have that. Try not to eat more than every 3 hours, and drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of water daily. This should help some.
Do not fret if you gain a bit of weight. Once sleeved, your weight will come off, and it usually comes off pretty fast at first. Then, more slowly, until you finally will need to work out in order to lose the rest. But, for right now, enjoy yourself within moderation.
Take care and good luck!!
i never bing ate until 3 weeks before surgery. but when i ate the food i felt disgusted so i got over it quickly. go ahead, get it out of your system as long as you go on your diet 2 weeks before. When i started the 2 week diet i was prepared mentally. i no longer felt a slave to food.
I did it too before my surgery! lol It's a different story now that I'm 4 months out, down 70 pounds. I know I'm not eatting as much as I should eat. I'm not hungry or when I eat I don't eat much at all before feeling full. Best wishes!

Just remember that they want you to diet the 14 days before to SHRINK YOUR LIVER---this makes the surgery safer for you---I have read posts where people have been opened up and because of the liver thing their surgery was cancelled....so think of the letdown if you get that far and can't have the procedure done...Pretty much that is my incentive...I can't pay for 2 surgeries! Good luck and keepup the good fight!
Food funeral, food break-up, food mourning... Different names for the reaction to accepting that your relationship with food will never be the same again. I didn't binge really, but I made a little list of things that I HAD to eat before my pre-op diet--my favorite things that I wouldn't be able to eat for months and some foods that I may never eat again.
It made starting and sticking with the pre-op diet a little easier. Well, that, and the fact that I didn't want to get rejected for surgery for cheating on the pre-op diet!
Thirteen days is too close to mess up now! When you feel the urge to eat bad things or even to overeat good things, go do something else! Get out of the situation (kitchen, restaurant, fast food place, etc) and find something else to occupy yourself. Go outside and take a walk, clean out a closet, reorganize a bathroom cabinet, etc. You can do this!
I had the same thing - food tantrums and anything that was not nailed down and edible was likely to be eaten. IF you are not on a pre-op or need to lose weight first, then do it, but recognise that this is an anxious reaction to the looming surgery. Be mindful of where you're at mentally - the surgery will not fix your wonky relationship with food.
Be carful I have read on here that some surgeons will not do the surgery if you gain again before your date .. mine told me ahead of time if i gain more then 5 lbs in the month before surgery he will not do it and we would have to reschedule. he did not give me a pre op diet of any kind.. and I was worried before I went in for my pre surgery weigh in the week before i knew i had been over eating anticipating the surgery and the lack of food ill be dealing with.. i went in and i had gained 4 lbs he said he will reweigh the morning of and see where we go from there. that scared the shit outta me.. that might i went and had my last supper. ( texas steak house with all the fixins I couldnt move for liek 2 hours i really over did it ) and after that i ate nothing but turkey and chicken and the friday before my monday appt i did all liquids, broth and water i lost those 4 lbs
its never to late to get on track but you dont wanna put yourself in a place that messes up your chances for the surgery. once you have it the ability to mess up GREATLY decreases so it will get ALOT easier.
Honestly, I really did have a bucket list of restaurants that I wanted to go to before my liquid diet started and I went for it without one regret!! I am so glad that I did it because I am on day 7 of my liquid diet and I think it has helped me to not miss food as much. I still miss chewing and gum helps but this to will pass. Before you know it you will be post op and losing so enjoy for now!!!!
