ALL my hair is falling out :( Any tips?

I'm just a little over my 3 months mark and my hair loss is horrible. I used to have thick curly hair down to my waist and it's so thin now. My hair is falling out by the handfulls and it's starting to really get me down. I know this is a common side effect but I'm wondering if any of you use anything that REALLY works. I'm starting to think it'll all fall out soon

I have not experienced this so this comment is solely from answers I have only read or heard.

A lot of people on this site will swear by some magic Asian remedies that will stop hairloss.. They very well could work.. Others will say to take biotin and make sure you get all of your water and protein in... which I'm sure play a big part to saving some hair too... BUT...

Will I lose my hair after weight loss surgery?Potentially. People may lose their hair when they experience rapid weight loss. However, the hair always returns once weight loss levels off. Are you getting your minimum 70g of protein per day? Do you take biotin, zinc, iron, calcium and multi vitamin?

I think everybody loose some hair around 3 months post op. It is normal.

Yes, I eat anywhere from 75 - 83 grams of protien a day because I eat mostly fish and seafood. I also take everything except biotin. I've read really mixed reviews about it online. Is it working for any of you?

Yes, biotin doesn't stop the hair loss but it helps the regrowth. I up my biotin when my hair starts to fall off. No problem since. And you may want to up your protein some more.

I'm right there with u!!! U should see my shower wall from all the hair that comes out and then the mounds that come out onto my hair brush. I just started taking biotin last week....I haven't noticed a difference but I have heard it could take a month before u see the results. It's very frustrating to see all the hair loss....I'm trying to not stress over it...I've heard some people say to cut your hair short but I couldn't bear that too. Good luck! Just choke it down for now and remind yourself that this too shall pass. Find ways to wear your hair which minimises the appearance of your hair thinning. Mine fell out for about three months and has slowed down now. I've got plenty of regrowth now, and I've been blowdrying rather than straightening my hair to keep it looking a bit fuller. In the end everyone has been so busy noticing my weight loss, that my hair loss hasn't been noticed by anyone other than me!

So sorry to hear you are experiencing this. I experienced hair loss at about the 3 month mark, and it can be quite devistating. I didn't use Biotin. I made sure my protein intake was adequate and I stop using color and invested in a good quality shampoo and conditioner. Try not to use high heat styling tools and keep hydrated. Since hair is mostly protein, any help you can give it inside and out will help. I am now at the 6 month mark and my hair is back to normal. I am headed back to my color and will keep you posted on the results. Most importantly don't worry, it will come back. My new hair is healthier and stronger and yours will be too.

Sorry to hear you're dealing with that. As far as what to do, yep, keep your protein up and for supplements, you can try biotin and one I haven't seen anyone else mention is selenium. I've started taking both in the hopes I won't be going through the same thing in a few months. Not cool! Here's a link about selenium...

I know this is scary! Mine started falling out around month three and continued until month 7. I lost half my hair. All I can say is you won't go bald, and it will come back and when it does it grows pretty quick. I just had my hair colored for the first time since surgery and I had short hairs all over my head (about two inches long) so it is coming back in! My hair lady recommended biotin and Gelatin (either jello or capsules). I used Nioxin to stabilize the loss and it did help a lot. I can sympathize with how you are feeling. Somedays I would just cry. But it is temporary. Eat your protein, take your vitamins and the above supplements and I can promise it will stop and come back. I tell my friends all the time that it is worth it! I went from a size 22 to an 8/10 in just 7 months. I would go through it all over again to get these results! A lot of people swear by something called Sheng Fa Hair nutrition. You can get it at veryasia.com for $4.79 per bottle. I bought 4 bottles and plan to start taking it this month. I don't have much hair to begin with so I can't afford to lose any! LOL

I also experienced severe hair loss. Began taking biotin morning and night at four months, now I take it once a day and my hair loss has drastically slowed down. I also switched from shampoo and conditioner to Wen hair products, the combination of that and the biotin have really made a difference. I am getting a lot of new growth!

there is absolutely nothing you can do for the falling. ZERO. NOTHING. It will continue to fall for about three or four months. I went through this too, no amount of protein will change it, no amount of vitamins will change it. it falls because your body clock reset on the day of surgery and just like clockwork it started falling at three months.

now as bad as that sounds (i know, i lost more than half the volume of my hair) there are things you can do to help. Cut your hair. Cut it to shoulder length. getting rid of the long strands will help the rest fluff up and not look straggly. i cut mine twice, once i went from almost my waist to shoulder length...two months later i cut it off to ear length. cutting it helps SO much, plus it gives the illusion of less hair falling, since the hairs are not so long.

i bought a lot of hats...fedoras, baseball caps, berets...you name it.

there are a couple of wonderful products to fill in on your scalp...by far my favorite is "xfusion keratin hair fibers" you can find it on amazon and at many hair salons. its a powder and fibers colored to match your hair...you apply it to your scalp and it fills it in, looks SO natural and nice. if you don't have money for any products, you can use eyebrow powders and a blush brush...just dust the powders on your scalp.

biotin. it will do nothing for loss, but it WILL help the baby hairs grow much much faster.
