    Default Weight Loss/Gain Concern

    Hi Everyone-

I am a little over a month out from my surgery. I had lost 23 lbs the first week, then after 2 more weeks only 3, which I was told is normal. Well the 4th week, my scale appears to show that I have actually GAINED weight by about 3 lbs or so. Has this happened to anyone so early into the process? Is this normal? Should i speak with my doctor?

    -Jackie

I was sleeved on the 15th of march and the same this has happened to me. Just keep on keeping on and it will start up again. I never go over 800 cals or over 25 carbs, I try to get my water in (hard) and my proteins comes from food (can't do shakes any more) But we will WIN!

I have had ups and downs, usually seen in the opposite context. I would look at your caloric intake, water consumption (you want to be very well hydrated), exercise or activity level (literally walk your ass off, I said literarily) and you being a lady what time of the month it is.

If your efforts are all in line the scale will go down across the days/weeks.

LOL Im sure you're getting tired of hearing this....

But THAT is normal too :-)

I just weighed myself from over the weekend and I gained 4lbs myself...but I also didnt drink my water like I know I should be...and wasnt eating that "clean" It happens to all of us from time to time. That is why some people say dont weigh in every day. Personally I LOVE to weigh in each day...it keeps me accountable...it reminds me that I have to take each day at a time...and that one day isnt the end of my journey.

When I weighed in this morning...yes I was upset that I went up so much...but I realized that I needed to step back and look at how I was eating over the weekend...

So this morning I went back to the basics... Protein shake for breakfast and lunch...a small snack of chicken salad...and will have meat and a small helping of veggies tonight. And I will do this all week until I am back where I want to be. The sleeve is the best gift I was ever given...it has been a tool that I am loving!!!

I have definitely not been drinking AS much as I should, but trying to do my best. I was also in Florida for a few days and had to eat at 3 restaurants which I know doesn't help because I can't quite measure my calories, etc. However, it was really humid and I wonder if I retained water? I am just disappointed because I feel like with the amount of food I am eating, I should be losing!

I really wouldnt give to much thought over it...

Just make sure you drink water...and drink some more...go to bed drink a glass of water...wake up drink a glass...

Sometimes your body just needs a jump start and restaurant food is filled with salt and hidden fats so just keep drinking, and go for a walk

Drink, drink, drink.....get that water in!!! I try to weigh only once a week (for that purpose). If you are working out....muscle weighs more than fat. If your not walking or working out....try to get some gym time in. Just be cautious on your carb and calorie intake.

If your body is not getting as much water as it wants it will hold onto it and you will gain water weight. If it is not getting the protein it will go into starvation mode and hold everything...I just went up and down and held steady for my 3rd week post op but today dropped 3lbs! I had to make myself drink my protein drink and more water to get that to happen.... Drink your water! sip sip sip. I think it takes a week to 10 days to see the changes in weight even out..It is not a smooth always downward slope..there are hills and valleys' I hate comming out of a valley back up a hill but as long as the progress is overall downward it is good!! But do be careful to get all and more of your fluids ..If not water broth or herbal teas or whatever you can get down. I like to think of it as washing away the lbs they get stuck if you don't have enough water. Also the metabolism of losing weight produces things that need to be washed out in the urine so you need to have enough water to have a light colored urine to make sure you can get rid of the other stuff. Drink more = lose more...The heat and humidity in Florida can make you sweat more which can also increase your water needs. So yes you can be retaining water and the way to get your body to let go of water weight is to give it enough water so it won't cling to what it does have!! Good luck and keep us posted;-)

Thanks for everyone's encouragement. I think I need to continue drinking more and wait and see how I am in a few days post Florida. Wish me luck!

Have faith, if you follow the NUT guidelines it shouldn't be possible for you not to lose weight.

I think the best way to track all of this, even before we are sleeved (like me) is to look at the TREND. I have been "schooled" by more than a few smart folks here to keep your eye on the trend. There will be ups and downs throughout the whole process. But keeping track with one of the websites that graphs your weight over time gives you a visual to focus on, rather than a number. I agree that it makes it less stressful and definitely more realistic.

Happened to me too....at 3 weeks actually gained some weight while doing all the right things. NUT said this is normal and to relax. The next week the stall was broken. I am in another stall now. Was sleeved 2/24/13. Keep getting your protein and fluids in and the weight loss will resume. Good luck!
