    Question What to say.....

I've bombarded with the same comment from lots of people lately, "You don't need to loose any more weight, you look fine the way you are now" when in reality, I have about 13 more lbs to loose to get to my goal weight. I usually say something like, "I'm not at my goal weight yet" or "I'm almost there" or "I still have a little more to loose" but none of these stops the comments. The truth is, I don't want to be rude to anyone but Jeeze, how can someone say you look fine or you're getting a little too thin when they don't even know what my weight is? Or for that matter, why should they even bother saying it at all? I want a good response that's witty but strong at the same time. Any suggestions?

i can't take credit for this... I saw it on this site: "Are you mad you got that haircut?"
    or
That's nice of you to say, but i'm still a little ways away from my goal: something my Dr. and I set for me.
    or
Victoria's Secret called me and we agreed on just a few more pounds.
    or
You know, everyone has a different opinion about my weight... do you find that happens to you too? It's the strangest thing!
    or
Thank you for your concern, but I am fine.
    or
My husband bought me an "outfit" and I can't wait to wear it for him...
    or
Is that a squirrel over there?

I'm sorry, I should be in bed...I'll stop there... I think humor is a kind way to say none of your business... or just look at them like I can't believe you just made that comment, shake your head and walk away. That should be a conversation starter that you are in control of. Speaking of which, the trick to getting the upper hand in any conversation is to start asking questions back... it puts you in the driver's seat. Whoever is asking is leading the conversation. Good luck... I'm sure you will get better advice than this on this great site...but that's what I gots at 2:16 in the morning. g'night

Advanced diplomacy needed - I get it. Really what you might like to say is not printable but we will have to go with what is socially acceptable.
I really like the suggestions listed above, especially the one that says "Thanks, but not at the goal set by Dr. etc."
I'd be going with something more honest - along the lines of "Thanks, but I'm not content until I see this through. Appreciate the concern though."
There is something about commenting on weight that defies all the normal rules of communication and it's all subjective.
Best of luck finding what you're comfortable with.

I love the witty responces but be aware that while they may be entertaining to you they might not. Very often those that are voicing their opinion may be doing it out of concern, even if its misplaced. I'd reassure them that this is a goal you've discussed with your doctor and am not stressed out about needing to go a little further in your journey. They may be jealous of your transformation so be sure whatever you say you say it with confidence.

    Great work by the way.

HI, I would tell them, I got my life back. Look at me now. Like some one said set your self small goals. I know after surgery I did a 1/2 marathon. As hard as it sounds, it was the funnest time and I learned things about my self.

Yeah. I used to think the snappy answers to weight question were funny and appropriate...but after a while it just makes you feel grumpy. Better to just "my doctor and I have our plan", "I'm almost at my doctors goal" or something they can't argue about that isn't snarky and move on.

I'm hearing that ALL THE TIME now .. mostly from family and it really is hard to ease their fears while trying to get your point across. I'm 10 lbs from my final goal and am still aiming for that no matter what they say ... It's the neurotic side of me that needs to finish this thing and if i don't hit that magic number i don't know that i'll feel like it's "finished" so when people (my mother to name names) says "Aren't you done yet?" "You look great, but i think you need to stop now" I just point out that i'm not talking about another 25 or 50 lbs, it's 10 pounds and if that will make me feel better about me what is it really going to hurt? Seriously, if 10lbs will put me into the sickly thin catagory (which it most certainly will not!) then my doctors would be screaming for me to stop too, but they're not, they tell me I look fabulous and another 10lbs will get me out of the "overweight" BMI range and i'll still look fine. If I come up with a good solid "shut'em up" answer you'll be the first to know what it is!!!

It's hard for people when they are used to seeing you overweight. You just keep getting smaller...they're at a loss of what to say. I am not a witty person either, so have no "comeback" for you!

My recommendation is to just not say "I'm almost there" or "I haven't met my goal weight yet" if they're givng you negativity. It's not worth the stress or aggrevation It's really none of their frickin' business! Sorry, but I hate when ppl judge others. No matter what.........Keep it up! You meet that goal and enjoy your success and don't let others' opinions discourage you.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I do want to keep it on the light side but deep down I'm thinking "it's not your business!" without even thinking that it may be concern. The truth is, I don't look sickly and another 10-15 lbs won't make me look that way either. I guess it would rather hear, "Wow, you look great!" (which I do hear often) than "You need to stop" because I would NEVER say that to anyone.
