WLS here I come!!!

Hey guys my name is Christina (Roly-Poly) and I am persuring WLS. This past week I went to a seminar and was thinking I was Band all the way. But now I am not sure I want that bother forever....looking more towards the sleeve. All/any concerns, ideas, encouragement and suggestions are WELCOME. Also I live in Columbus Georgia and would love to locate some other sleevers if they exsist !!! Hope to get lots of advice and words of encouragement leading up to surgery!!!

There are threads on just about everything you can imagine---including lots of posts by people who had a band and are converting to sleeve. hi and welcome! I havent had the sleeve surgery yet, i have my appointment with the surgeon on wednesday next week to get scheduled. I too, was geared up for the band until i learned more about it and the sleeve. I am all for the sleeve! Coming to this forum has given so much invaluable information about what is ahead for me. Hi I just joined this group yesterday and I have gotten so much positive feedback. I also wanted the band but not sure I want to be getting stuck all the time while they add and remove fluids. I am excited and ready for the journey and glad you are taking it to. Welcome!

I started off wanting the band too, til I heard of the sleeve and then I wondered why everybody else would want any of the other surgeries. you're in a good place here, everybody's been great here. Glad you are here!

Hello I had the band first. I had nothing but complications with it. I did not lose any weight with it and later had to have it removed. I am know going to have to fight the insurance company to get them to pay for the sleeve. My insurance company has a rider of one baratric proceedure per a life time. I had no other complications until now. I wish I would have had the sleeve done initial.

I also went in thinking lap band, but after thinking about having a foreign object inside of me, and all the maintenance of filling and draining, I decided on the sleeve, I am now 2 weeks post op and I feel great, I've lost 22 lbs. and I am learning it is all a process.

Hey! Welcome to the site! I also wanted the band until I did more research and talked to the surgeon. I am sleeve all the way! My surgery date is June 30th.

I also was originally going for the lap band and after my doctor told me about gastric sleeve I realized that was the better option for me. I did a lot of research and with the band and all the adjustments it seemed to be to much. I think the sleeve has better long term results. I have also met someone who had the band and now is having sleeve. I also saw someone on a web site also doing sleeve after lap band attempt. Good luck!

Yeah!!!! The Sleeve is the way to go!!!! I'm 8 weeks post-op, and every day I get use to my new way of eating. It gets easier all the time. I am eating what I want now just smaller amounts. I am use to drinking a lot. I can eat up to 8 oz. of food. It depends on what it is. Dr. Almanza knows exactly what he's doing. I just needed to eat healthier, smaller amounts that I can live with without feeling deprived. My sleeve makes me feel satisfied. LOL...Bonnie

GOOD luck with the ins. co. I had the same thing.....But I fought ins. for 18 months no luck so I ended up paying cash it sucks
. But on the up side I had the sleeve now and Loving it !!!

Hey, when you pay cash, you don't have to wait as long or go through therapy, seminars or tests over a long period of time. Everything is done the same day which is less complicated. I loved it and would reccomend it to anyone who can do it. LOL...Bonnie

I was initially interested in the lap band procedure. i attended several information/supportgroup sessions for weight loss surgery through the bariatric surgery group near me. I asked my primary care doctor what her opinion was on the lap band and she recommended the gastric sleeve instead. As I attended more support groups I noticed more "issues" with lap band patients post op. There were also some lap band success stories. I elected to have the ugastric sleeve on June 8th. It did take a few months for me to "wrap my head around the idea" of having major surgery versus a simple lap band.
The surgery went very well and I was released 2 days afterwards. It is now 5 days post op and I am able to drink 1 or 2 protein shakes a day and clear fluids like broth, tea and popsicles. I feel "full" all the time...like after a Thanksgiving meal. No problem with light activity, walking, stairs. Can't bend down to pick up something off the floor yet (site where incision was is tender). Will start on soft foods as I am able to tolerate them. Ideally, I should be eating a 1200 calorie diet of "normal" food within 6 weeks...it's just a question of how soon and how much an individual can tolerate. Good luck on your journey. So far, I am very pleased.

The band sure seems like a Pain in the rear. When I go to the surgeons office there are always a few banders waiting for their "fill" and to hear them talk... To much,too little, food getting stuck, days of barfing ! Not for me - I cant wait to get my sleeve done.

I live near Columbus and am waiting on insurance... what doctor are you talking to?
