I have had the band for about 5 years. I always threw up after eating and have had trouble with the band. I was taking antacids 2times a day and still had acid reflux. I had become very anemic with low iron and hemoglobin. I was told to get the band out so I am going to have the sleeve done on 4/8/2013 in Mexico because my insurance won't cover any bariatric surgery. Has anybody else been through a similar experience with the lap band and then did the sleeve?

I will be getting my band removed and the sleeve done on 9th April the band stopped working and I have tight esophagus so they can no longer fill the band witch is only half filled.

I am interested in this response too. I have the band (3 years) and although I have not had any health concerns, the band and I have not worked well together. I lost 80lbs my first year with the band and have since gained that back and even more. I am considering the sleeve or bypass. I meet with a surgeon next week to discuss my options. I fear that since the band failed, or I should say I was not successful with the band, that I will fail with a bypass or sleeze too.

Did u get enough restriction from fills with the band? If not, the sleeve should give you restriction so u don't gain weight .Good luck

Thanks for the respondes. I am excited but nervous. I just want no health issues and to get back to my goal weight and stay there. Best of luck to us all as we continue out journey.

Oh yeah! Had lap band for over 5 years. Rarely had decent restriction and suffered the same type of horrible heart burn if I did have restriction. Felt like a total failure with it.

I'm now in week 7 from my revision surgery and it's a night/day difference. I eat - get full - don't' get stuck and am rarely hungry. I always hated being "stuck" but still feeling hungry. No longer!

It's a totally different experience with sleeve.

I am getting my revision tomorrow. I have had the band since 2005...yes that long. Fills in, fills out, gagging, puking, and I didn't know about the sleeve till last summer. : 0 I should have kept going to support meetings but I felt like such a failure. They had already been doing sleeves about a year at that point. I just thought my life was going to be this way. I have had no fills since last spring I think, but even so still felt restriction. I am hoping and praying that the band comes out easily after being there for so long. I can still feel the port from the outside so I hope that is good. Did you have any complications with your band removal? How long were you in the hospital? And your story really is very positive and encouraging. Thanks. : )

Yes I was band in Dec 2010 and had problems as well. My weigh would go up an down, food would get stuck, and lets talk about refills they would hurt me like (h--l). Have scar tissue, and then found by another Dr I have ulcer.
Now I have change my Dr to Todd Worley an May 1. 14 days before my birthday, I will have my sleeve done.

The day I had my sleeve done, there were 6 of us that the doc was operating on that morning. His first case as a woman whose band had eroded into her stomach and had to be surgically removed. It made her super sick.

Not anywhere close, but at least you aren't the only one with complications!

So my band has been out along with most of my stomach for 18 days. The band caused a hernia. Not surprised. I'm glad it's gone. I have recovered pretty well and still eat like a bird. I hope my stomach stretches a little bit so I can eat at least a 1/2 cup of something, anything, at a time.

Hello I had the band since 2010 trouble from the start.stoped losing after the first 10 months could not eat either. Dr said he wanted band out because of tight esophagus . went in april 9th he found the herina at the band was surprised he said he had never come across that problem it was stoping any food going through. wants me on clear liquids till i see him the 18th april. i only take pain meds to help me sleep days are good.
