    Default Nioxin

So I had never heard that you could lose hair during this process and once I read that I couldn't get it out of my head. I have always had a lot of hair! When I get hair cuts they thin it. The rest of my family has thin hair, mine is thin but I got lots of it. So I went to the salon and bought the nioxin. It was $40 plus tax for two huge containers, one shampoo and one conditioner. They will probably last six months. I haven't noticed any more the normal hair loss but as I'm having a hard time getting in all my protein I thought better safe then sorry. I've been growing my hair for three years and the last thing I wanted was to get to a nice figure but be bald. Anyone else using this preventitivly?

I just discussed this topic with my doctor yesterday after learning about hair loss on this forum. He suggested Biotin.

K, first question, what's biotin? Second question is what did you get in canada? B-12 shots? Are they injections? I'm taking a b-12 suplement daily.

I don't mean to be a buzz kill at ALL because I want to stress that each and every person's journey is different- but I used Noxin shampoo, biotin supplements, and got at least 60g of protein EVERY DAY after my clear liquid diet was finished 2 weeks post op. I still lost about half of the volume of my hair between months 3 and 5. After month 5 the loss stopped completely and now I have significant re-growth coming in. I discussed this at length with my doctor who said that taking supplements and using shampoos can not hurt, and in some instances they do help, but loss WILL happen if its going to happen and its just an unfortunate reality that comes along with the healthy lifestyle the sleeve allows us for the rest of our lives. There's not much we can do to stop it.

Word, girl. Every time I have surgery that involves going under general anesthetic, my hair falls out. Not all of it and I can afford it, but it's annoying vaccuming off the floors, like I have 100 cats with REALLY long hair.

Well I'd rather use it then not even if it helps a little. I highly doubt my hair will fall out because I have gone through a lot of medical crap and its been ok. I have some to spare. If all else fails I have a wonderful hairdresser who does amazing extensions and volume pieces.

i post this on every hair loss thread....

    telogen effluvium

there is NOTHING you can do to prevent the loss. if you are one of the large percent that it happens to, you did nothing wrong. It happens for the same reason many women restart their periods the day of surgery. Our internal clocks restart, a percentage of the hair jumps into the loss phase, and bam within three or four months, all those hairs fall. period. you can help with the regrowth though with supplements, protein and biotin etc. but you can't STOP the loss.

Effluviums (Telogen and More): Causes, Treatments, and More

    Pounds LOST since surgery 111
    Finally reached Onderland 3/1/2013
    Height 5'3" Small frame
Starting BMI day of surgery : 45.7 MORBIDLY OBESE CLASS 3

my first goal is to get to 141pounds, that will put me in the NORMAL range bmi. My second goal is 120, which is thin and healthy.
