    Default Vitamins

    Hello all,
I was wondering what vitamins and complements you are taking. I'm 10 months out, and I'm only taking Centrum and Women's Gummy vitamins, do I need to take more?
I was taking biotin but the hair loss has diminished, (thank God) and I just didn't buy the next bottle. Should I keep taking it?
    Thank you for you help!

I take a childrens multi complete and a chewable calcium citrate twice a day, B12, and a B1 once a day. This is what my surgeon recommends. I go for my first lab the end of January to see my vitamin levels, 3 months out . Didn't your surgeon advise you on what vitamins to take, or no labs ordered? I guess all surgeons are different, but mine is very clear on what I should be taking. I think you really need to start with some calcium citrate, as well as B12 for starters.

I am 9 months post op and have been taking 3 adult gummies a day and a B12 1 time a week.
As far as the calcium please check with your DR. I was taking 1200 mg a day and Dr. told me to go off of it because calcium is linked to cancer.
I've had two sets of blood test and so far I'm good on everything. I do worry about D though without the sun exposure.

I take a specially formulated bariatric multivitamin - Bariatric Fusion. It has everything we need to take. I take 2-3 a day and all is good. Glad to hear that your hair loss has diminished, mine seems to finally be slowing down. I know that my docs said if I took a regular multivitamin, I would need extra B complex, iron and D. It's easier to just do the chewable bariatric. They can be ordered online at bariatricfusion.com . You can also check with your surgeon's office to see if they sell any. I buy mine right at the office. Good luck

I had low iron, B and D levels prior to my surgery, so I've been on a chelated iron (easier to digest), calcium with D, and a B supplement since about 2 weeks post surgery. On top of the chewable adult multivitamin, he always advises. At my one month appt., my bone density had dropped slightly, so my doctor actually upped my calcium intake. I was concerned when I read about the possible hair loss and asked my surgeon's nutritionist. She suggested an additional supplement with biotin, collagen, glucosamine, and a COMPLETE EFA, so I've been on that since that 1 month apt, as well. Thus far, I haven't had any hair loss issues (thank goodness!). In a couple of weeks, he's checking my blood vitamin levels (3 month mark), so I'm sure they'll be adjusting the supplements accordingly.

Both my surgeon and his nutritionist have stressed Protein, protein, protein! to avoid hair loss, tiredness, and other issues. One of the key factors that made me choose my surgeon over others was "lifetime" follow up with his nutritionist. I have found consulting with her extremely helpful in dealing with stalls, etc., (even though, my surgeon is out of state, she and I still meet via video conferencing and/or phone). If I did not have this option, I would consider retaining a nutritionist to help with the nutritional requirements we're under post surgery.

I had my surgery at a Center for Excellence, and there is a nutritionist on staff that I meet with as needed. Both her and my doctor recommend the following daily: mulitivitamins w/iron (2x day), Vitamin B (1x day), Calcium Citrate with D (2x day) and a B12 sublingual pill. They indicate anyone who has had this surgery needs these vitamins to ensure no deficiencies. I also take Biotin for hair loss, but my nut suggested not taking the biotin and taking a vitamin called Hair, Skin and Nails. I found it at Wal-Mart and plan to start taking it after the biotin runs out. I will also have a Vitamin panel blood test at the 1 year mark to check everything.
