    Default Almost a Year Out

    Hello there.
I am almost a year out and have lost 100lb since my surgery date. I feel good at this point and would like to stabilize now I think.
So I upped my calories to 1400 per day and since I have done this (about 2 weeks), I seem to be gaining little bits of weight. Is this normal? Should I worry? I can't see 1200 calories per day being right for the long term, that is typically the amount for weight loss. I only wanted to maintain at this point, not gain!!
So of course all of the old feelings start coming out and I am freaking out a little bit.
    Any words of advice?
    Thanks!!

I'm not sure how many calories you were doing before, but I wondered if you wanted to work on maintenance now or wait until you reach your goal weight of 170. I would suggest that your calories may be a bit high. I would also check your balance of protein and carb intake. Good luck to you! I look forward to the days of maintenance.

I would think once you’re at your goal you would want to slowly increase the calorie intake and find that sweet spot. I’d imagine like anyone sleeved or not you will always go up and down a few pounds say 3-5 +/- each week. This would be all dependent upon the calorie intake and activity level.

I know personally just starting to work out I am consuming right about 600-650 calories and shall see if this is sufficient as I am starting to work out. My personal trainer thinks it is far too low but she has not dealt with sleeved people and is differing this to my physician. She believes it should be evident as we track my BMI, weight loss, muscle fatigue and hunger. Thus far, the 600-650 seems to be working well for me but I am prepared to monitor my caloric intake and adjust as needed.

I would expect this to be the case for all of us in each phase of our weight loss. Continual monitoring and adjusting caloric intake and activity.

I have not a single clue how to maintain because I am far from goal BUT I will say this, my doctor suggest nothing under 1,000 calories is healthy nor realistic for long term...I agree. I try my darnest to get around that number even @ only 3 months out..you want to be healthy and thin ..if you exercise than add 15 mins extra...if not than go down 100 and then back to 1400...keep it different...you never know

Congratulations on your weight loss. I am so happy for you. You and only know when you are at the perfect weight for you. If you are there Just increase your calories by maybe 100 above what you where when your were losing and see how it goes. From what I have heard most people maintain after the sleeve at around 1200 calories so the 1400 may actually be a little high. But you will have to keep adjusting until you find the number that is right for you as it will be different for everyone. Good Luck

Highest weight 440 lbs. lowest weight 9.5 lbs at birth
    Date of surgery weight 340
    12 week checkup 301 BMI <50 yeah!
Weight on birthday 3/24/48 Goal 285 would be nice.

I have maintained my current weight (give or take 3#'s) for 7 months. I usually consume 1200-1600 a day. I also exercise every day. It is usually at least an hour. I go to the gym, walk, x-country ski. You will have to find your balance. If I see the scale go up a pound or two, I cut back a little for the next 2-3 days until it is down again. I never let it go past 158. Hope this helps.

Well your body is used to less calories meaning less meatabolism. So you cant go by the normal daily calorie guides anymore. You have to find your number. I would say a small gain is normal. If you continue to gain then lower... Id wait till i hit goal and even try to lose five to ten more.. that way you have wiggle room when you do gain initially... Once you start increasing calories its hard to reverse again..

I don't think that for a year out your calories are high at all. I am 11 months out and eat 1350-1600 calories a day (higher when I exercise, lower if its an off day). I am maintaining 140 # no problem. I came to this number by adjusting my calories up 25 per day for a week, then weigh and repeat until I stopped losing. I weigh weekly and will adjust if I need to.
