    Default Dumping syndrome not good

I've heard of it .... Now I've experienced it.

5 bites of mashed potatoes with a baby teaspoon and 90 minutes later can't leave the bathroom. Tmi...writing from the bathroom ... Double tmi

Not sure if its what or how I ate.... But things aren't good

I've had that just a couple of times as I moved onto soft solids. Hasn't happened since. Hope you're feeling better.

Hm, usually only happens after sugars, but maybe it's your body trying to digest again. Was there a lot of butter in the potatoes? I am one of those unlucky people who never gets dumping. Wish I did, maybe it would make me avoid sweets like the plague!

For me it wasn't with sweet food/sugars, it's when I had something with a bit higher fat content. First time was a salmon fillet. Luckily it all passed through pretty quickly then i was fine again pretty quickly.

That's because most gastric sleeve patients do not experience dumping. It's WAY more common in gastric bypass patients. To the OP, I hope you feel better!

Keri, I am so sorry that you had to experience this! You are not alone, I had it with both jello and sugar free pudding - not pretty. It may be that you new teeny tiny tummy wasn't ready for potatoes, try again in a week or two (it has worked for me). Give yourself time to heal and eat only what agrees with your tummy so far today, I promise you will feel better. Best wishes on your journey during the holidays.

You are only 10 days post op... this wont be a long term problem. I don't think that is technically dumping syndrome, but rather your body not being used to food.

I about killed myself putting peanut butter in a protein drink when I was like 2 weeks out. OMG - I thought I might die...lol. Too rich, too much, too soon.

I'm 5 months out after sleeve surgery and still get dumping syndrome if I'm not careful. Usually happens after too much sugary food but has happened with too much fat containing carbs too. It's like payback after you've eaten too much of something that you know you shouldn't have had.

At 10 days post-op I was still on full liquids. And my first and only tablespoon of mash potatoes wasn't until Thanksgiving. My nutritionist refers to mashed potatoes as a slider food (which means it holds little nutritional value for what our bodies require and it's easy for us to consume it in excess).

I will say there is somewhat of a disagreement (for lack of a better word) when it comes to "dumping" syndrome and gastric sleeve patients. According to my surgeon the term was initially coined because it occurs do to the bypassing of organs in the digestive process. But our organs out not "bypassed" when we are sleeved. Therefore, we don't in reality experience true "dumping" syndrome. Which is one of the reasons I chose this surgery over the other options. I have not experienced any bad food experiences as of yet (knock on wood) but I am careful to introduce "new" foods one at a time. Best wishes!

I'm eating some Applebees's mashed potatoes as I type this and so far nothing has happened. I ordered them last night when at the restaurant.
I ate one boneless chicken wing, 1/3 of a rib and a couple of bites of mashed potatoes and I was done. It was great! normally I could have plowed through all of this and had 5 or 6 beers along with it. I love this new stomach.
But back to the subject, last night was the first time I had tried mashed potatoes and so far no ill effects.
