Sex Hormones Harmed after Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

I am plaining on doing my gastric sleeve surgery in Mid to Late January. The other day I was telling one of my friends that I will be getting the sleeve and he quickly told me that my sex hormones will be effected by the surgery that supposedly I wouldn't able to get aroused after I get the surgery. After doing all of my research and hearing all the negativity about the procedure from ignorant people that haven't done any research I want to ask all of you who have already had the surgery is this true??

Are your sex hormones normal like they were before your surgery? Have you experienced any changes at all?? positive or negative?

Sex drive is the same or higher than it was before. However, I am married, so I have no way to confirm this.

I'll add the other side... but with an explanation as well.
I really think it's individual, just like anything else medical/hormonal.
My drive essentially vanished for about 13 months. My drive, not my ability to... get stimulated. I just needed to be convinced. It's like it just didn't occur to me. Lately it's been better.
I am 53, was entering menopause when I started and dropped back to perimenopause with all it's issues - sweats, moods, etc. Now I am back to entering menopause again (blood tests proved the movements). When I went back into peri I think my body just got very confused.
Then there is the kind of diet we must eat after surgery. In my case it was nearly pure protein for about 9 months. Protein is terrific for weight loss, for keeping muscle, for a lot of things. For SOME of us, it's not terrific for moods. It's a complicated serotonin uptake thing. Anyway, as you can see there are many factors to consider, not the least of which is how your drive is now, your other medical issues, etc.
I wish I could tell you one way or the other but no one can. I can tell you from my own experience it did come back to where it was pre-surg once I started to eat more varied foods and more calories. Perhaps when some of us are eating 800 cal a day there just isn't enough brain energy left for s*x....
Let me sum it up this way. If you are doing this for medical reasons, then it's worth a possible temp loss in drive to lose a lot of weight and get a lot more healthy. I can definitely say it was for me. I may not have been "in the mood" for a while but now that I am, I can move a lot better with 115 lbs off my body.

Personally I don't think it changed for me, but what HAS CHANGED is that I have soooooooooo much more confidence!! I am no longer embarrassed to be seen naked and THAT makes it so much better!

I'm glad you did your research, and I'm glad you prefer to rely on real research rather than ignorant opinions.
So, what peer-reviewed clinical research did this person cite? Because I'm guessing that this was another ignoramus talking.

I've had more energy and confidence so sex for me has been so much better and my husband is a happy man for it! Plus, the different positions I can do now as compared to when I was heavier . . . oh my! Sorry for TMI but I had to share my experience and let you know that it isn't the same for everyone (I'm 45).

That's probably a effect that differs with the person. But I can tell you that statistically all the feedback points the other way. My drive is through the roof now causing my girlfriend great happiness at first and later like a lot of relationships probably a chore. But I'm eager nightly and I think she likes to sleep.
Thats ok nothing I cant handle.Dont worry you'll still have a drive and most probably will increase with your new zest for life and the confidence youll have.

If you believe that, then I have some beachfront property in Arizona I'd like to sell you! Amazing what you will hear from non-WLS people. It's pure nonsense and I can vouch for that personally...or perhaps you'd even like a certified statement from my husband? The only change is that it get BETTER!!! Not all that blubber getting in the way of having fun!

I think for a week or two afterwards it might dip while you are healing, but I can assure you that it comes back quite quickly.
