Default 11 days postop and struggling

How do you get enough water and at what amount should I be aiming for at this stage? I know i shouldn't drink and eat at the same time and I'm losing track of time when I should be drinking before I eat again. Most of the instructions I received from my doctor has to do with patients who've had the by pass surgery. It is becoming confusing between amounts of protein shakes and water. I believed that as a sleeve patient I will absorb more protein than that a by pass patient, so should I be aiming for 4-5 protein shakes a day because doing that, I can't get to the water or any other type if foods allowed at this stage for that matter. It's really becoming frustrating and I'm getting depressed about it.

Don't worry too much in the first couple weeks about protein, you banked it during your preop. At this point make sure you get fluids in and if you can do that as a water based protein drink even better. When your food is liquid it's not really possible to separate eating and drinking. Try not to worry too much. Send ANgelNP your email, she will send you The Sleeve Bible, very informative. Good luck xxx

ive been keeping a bottle of water in my hand 24 7 and one by my bed. Ive been drinking smart water that also has electrolites. I am 12 days POST OP and I am feeling great. Ive been eating an egg or as much of it as I can, in the mornings since day 8 and taking half a vitamin. Ive been drinking also aloe water to help me heal as well as carrot juice and taking tumeric for inflammation. All my wounds are in the scarring phase and I also been walking since day 8 -2 miles a day which takes only 20 minutes. AS far as water you need to drink the same amount a day as any day before surgery. You need to shoot for min. 50 oz a day but ideal is 70 oz. The best way to do this is to get a bunch of bottled water and then you know how much your drinking as you grab another bottle. I eat the egg and take vitamins and a few sips of water upon waking. Then 30 minutes later I drink approx. 8oz of water at once. Wait 30 minuites and have another 8 oz. little while later I will have a protein shake. I mix mine thick. in 5 0z of fat free goats milk which adds 12gm. of protein . half hour later drink 8 oz of water. Its easy just need to focus on it and do it. Good luck. Im down 14.2 pounds and im at day 12. So far its working for me but I know everyone is different. I just thought id share what is really working. im sleeping 9-11 hrs a night by making myself go to sleep instead of watching TV like I normally would. I have bursts of energy several times a day but also get low..that wont change until I get significant calories. I believe im having 800 or less per day so far. I almost forget I had the surgey cause I feel so good. I wish everone had this experience but I know they dont. I just hope it stays this way but I realize a lot of complications come several weeks and months down the road...

Hydration is the key at this point. I was told to try for 60 - 70 grams of protein per day, 4 - 5 protein drinks seem a little high to me. When do you get to start full liquids (things like yogurt) and purees??? They give you something other than liquids to consume for your protein -- plus a change of pace. You are doing really well!
