    Cool Couple of questions

For those of you that can now eat real food how do you tolerate raw veg and fruit? I'm still on fluids and never thought I'd miss an apple so much. Also when can I start to take pills again? I'm a vitamin freak and the fish oil pills ground down are gross. Thank you x

i started eating apples about 2 weeks out. My doctor said is was ok if I could tolerate it. I am now 11 weeks out and now am I going thru a grapefruit phase. But when I did eat apples, I did not eat the peel. I can eat an entire Granny smith now. Salads go down really easy for me to. But from my experience on this site. everyone is different.

My husband started swallowing pills at the hospital. It was tough, he treats them as a meal because it takes so long. I bought liquid multi vitamin, said gross. I bought a crusher, not interested. So I guess it's not too bad.

Salad used to be my favorite food but post surgery, not so much, causes pain. I will try again in a couple of weeks. Carrots have been ok, peppers the same. Apples kill me, but I can eat oranges no problem. As far as pills; I have been taking my Vitamin D pills since the week after surgery, but everyone is different.

If it is just for the nutrients, you can always juice fresh fruit and vegies. As for eating an apple, I can't eat one yet either, because it hurts my tummy, I don't think I can chew it up small enough. I have had spinach and green beans, but cooked. I'm pretty sure further out you will be able to eat them much better though.

I have been able to eat just about anything. I haven't eaten a big salad, but I can eat lettuce. I also eat celery. I haven't really tried too many other raw veggies yet. For fruit, I've had apples, strawberries, and grapes so far. I just make sure to chew them into baby food and I do well. Apples and peanut butter are good, plus you get some protein from the peanut butter. I make a protein dip for my strawberries too. I take greek yogurt, vanilla protein powder, truvia, and SF Cool Whip. Mix together and let sit an hour or so. You can add a little vanilla flavoring or even almond. SOOOO GOOD and lots of protein!

As for pills, after I got home from hospital, I cut my Tylenol in half to take. Now that I can take bigger swallows, I take all my pills whole. Even "horse" pills.

Softer foods like cooked veggies and softer fruits like berries do fine, but you will find that raw foods are harder to eat, and you might have to blend them up if you intend to eat them raw. You can always make a veggie smoothie if the veggies are your thing.

    Good Luck,

I had surgery in June so I am 5 months out (I had post-surgical complications and have had only recently started eating more normally) and as of yet cannot tolerate a salad, tried Saturday and my stomach promptly returned it. I have had a banana and that was good. It seems that each person is different with tolerating raw fruits and veggies. Does your doc or nutritionist have any advice about when you can start on the fresh stuff? I started taking the pills whole when I could keep small amounts of food down, I checked with the doc and he ok'd it.

I didnt have raw veggies until about 8 weeks out. Didnt have fruits until 3 months out and tried my first apple at about 4 mos out. Didnt have a problem but I also think not trying them sooner was probably the reason
