    Default Very discouraged...

Hi everyone.... we'll I had my surgery on Tuesday the 30th, 1 week ago today and I weighed myself and I only lost 7 pounds since the surgery. After reading so many posts it seems everyone has lost so much more than me in the first week. I'm feeling like this surgery isn't going to work that well for me. I've only been drinking my protein shakes 2 or 3 times a day... some broth and trying to get in at least 32 oz. of water and yet hardly any loss. I knew it wouldn't be that much because my closthes are still fitting me pretty much the same. What am I doing wrong? I haven't excercised at all other than doing my routine stuff thruought the day but I still feel tender and don't want to do any damage...I have my Surgeons appt. tomorrow.... I'll see what they have to say but am looking for any advice any of you out there can offer.... thanks also, how can i add the weight lost tracking thingy to my profile?

I am not sleeved for another month, and I worry about this too, but I think a pound a day is realy good. I know it seems like a small amount but think of this way, slower weight loss is better on your system, your skin and your long term ability to keep it off.I did see that you got in 32 oz of water, see if you can up that. Good look and next time you are at the market, go pile 7 blocks of butter up, and have a look at what you are not carrying anymore!

I would say slower is better on the body anyway, then you wont have as bad lose skin problem. Kinda gives your body time to bounce back. Also, Ive read post about post surgery water retention etc. Give your body a chance you heal, it will come off.

    Concratz and good luck

I lost 8 lbs. the first week of surgery. The next few weeks after that, 2. Not everyone loses 20+ pounds a month but that's no reason you should give up so early. I'm rocking it and I lose weight VERY SLOWLY now. Like 3-5 lbs. a month. But check out my stats.

You need to give your body time to adjust & heal right now...try not to place expectations on it and just let the process happen. Barring very unlikely circumstances, you will lose your weight and learn to love your sleeve. It just doesn't happen in a week.

I gained weight after surgery and I think it took almost two weeks before the scale moved. Your body has just gone through major surgery. Be patient and trust in the process. You can read my early posts worrying about the same thing. You will be successful just following your doctor's orders Congrats on being sleeved!

Remember that this is a marathon NOT a sprint. Slow and easy, the biggest difference is that unlike before surgery where you would lose 7 lbs only to have them come back and bring along a friend or two...these 7 lbs are GONE. It is HARD to wrap your head around this...I remember all too well. Relax your body WILL figure it out and then the weight will start to come off again. I PROMISE!! (((hugs)))

Each and every person who has this surgery has their body respond is way that is unique only to that person! Remember that you had a major surgery and part of that was IV fluids, the fluids cause you to gain weight, so you have lost the the water weight plus 7 more pounds!! And like ElleMarie said those 7 pounds are gone FOREVER, so rejoice that they are gone!! Please don't go comparing yourself to others and then get discouraged just remember it will come off whether it be slow and steady like the tortoise or speedy like the rabbit at least it is gone! Take care and keep up the good work.

7 pounds in a week? That sounds great! How many other times in our lives have we lost 7# in a week? And known that we could sustain it? Sounds like you are doing great.

I gained 10lbs in the hospital because of all of the fluid I was getting through the IV. I was pissed and so depressed that night!! The next day, it went down drastically and by my second night home I started losing weight. Everyone is different.

Also, how much protein are you getting in? Since my 3rd day post op, doctor told be to get in at least 64 oz of fluid (water, protein drinks, broth etc.) and a minimum of 70 grams of protein. I've noticed that if I don't get that in, I don't lose weight nearly as quickly.

In addition, (this may be a bit TMI), but I was getting really down because the past three days the scale has not moved AT ALL, and I'm only 16 days post op. Then, I realized I hadn't gone to the bathroom (number 2) in 3 days. I just went and lost almost 2 lbs. lol I just progressed to full liquids 3 days ago and added protein and fiber to my diet, so I guess my body is still trying to play catch up. I know it's not easy, but give it time!! Like others said, 7 lbs in one week is nothing to shrug off! Good luck and congrats!!!

I, like you, want to lose less than 100 pounds. If one looks at the ratio of weight loss to the desired amount of weight one wants to lose, we are on track with folks who want to lose more than 100 pounds. In short, you are right where you are supposed to be...I had surgery on August 31st and I've lost 32 pounds. I have 35 more to go before I get to my goal. NEVER have I been on a "diet" or had a lifestyle change which has been this successful for me...and this time I know it's permanent. WOO HOO!

I lost 14 pounds the first two weeks following surgery. The only other time I can recall losing that much weight in two weeks was when I was deathly ill....and the moment I recovered those pounds came right back on! Congratulations on your weight loss!

Remember that not only is there excess fluid from surgery but they also pumped you full of gas. It does take time to get rid of fluids and gas, I was swollen for several days. My discharging Doc told me not to get on the scale for at least a week, because I would get upset (and he told me why). 7 pounds in 1 week is really, really good so don't be to hard on yourself. Also EXPECT stalls, and expect them to last up to 2 weeks at a time. The good news is that during stalls is when I lose the most inches. Have you taken your measurements yet? If not please do it now, and when you are in stalls and start getting frustrated than take your measurements again. I only measure myself during stalls, because it gives me something to look forward to!

I think 7 pounds in a week is great. You are swollen, you still have gas and your body is adjusting to the new you. Everyone's weight loss is different and you are losing at the rate that is good for you. Just do what your doc says and enjoy the journey. You're gonna love it.

You are doing great! Only a week out you are still healing and recovering. In week 2-3 you will see a big drop because the swelling will be gone.
