I need the real reason. I think it is because it washes the food down. When I eat and it doesn't agree with me. If I drink I feel better much quicker.
Your stomach needs time to absorb food. If you drink while you eat, my dr. told me that the important nutrients are washed away. I know it's hard, and takes some time to get used to. I was told at my 6 week post op appt that I can now drink up to the time I eat. Still have to wait 30 minutes after. Good luck!
Think of your stomach like the drain in your sink.
If you drink water, it goes through fast and quick.
If you eat food it sits (which is what makes you feel full) until it digests... slowly.
If you drink WHILE (or while there is/or shortly thereafter WILL be) you eat, it flushes the food that is making you feel full through your system quickly so you don't feel satiety as long.
This does 2 things... it empties your stomach making that feeling of fullness not last as long AND it pushes the food through your entire system too fast which means you don't get the nutrients you need from the food you just ate.

There is a good book on the subject "You are not what you eat", they recommend not drinking for 60 min after, it destroys the ability of the digestive enzymes to do their job because they become thinned out. Reaaly interesting read, I like that our sleeve rules go by what the author recommends, chewing as well at least 30 times. Will tell more as I finish the book !!
I think everyone. I mean EVERYONE... pre/non/post sleeve should really adopt this practise of not eating while/before/during eating. It helps us not eat as much... which of course is what food establishments WANT us to do!

If I drank anything too close to meal time, I couldn't eat much at all, which isnt good. We already eat a very small amount. If I were to drink more than a sip with a meal, I didn't feel well as it would make me too full. I don't like that feeling! 2 years post sleeve and it's still the same. I will have a small sip of water if the meal is dry perhaps, or too spicy. But that's it. No one should drink a lot with their meals anyway as it does interfere with the digestive enzymes. I agree tmclenn. The sleeve rules are good rules of eating. Micro meals, chew your food, no liquid with meals, mostly protein. Good rules for everyone.
