Default So far it's the biggest regret of my life.

I hear everyone saying how much they love thier sleeve, but I don't feel the same way. I am almost 3 weeks post opt, and I hate it. I love loosing the weight, but I wish I would have tried harder to loose the weight without surgery. I am hungry, and am very depressed because I can hardly eat. I admit it is getting better, but I wouldn't have done it if I had known it would feel like this. Please tell me this will get better.

It will get better once you adjust and get used to it...you will be able to eat more eventually so no worries.

Oh, don't give up!! Stay strong. I truly believe the first month is the hardest. You are emotionally hungry and haven't learned what you can and can't do. I'm no expert. I am 11 weeks out. But even in this short time, I've come to realize, this is easier than I thought. When you get those NSV (non scale victories) it is so sweet. You will treasure each lb. I have chosen not to focus on the actual pounds but on points in my life. I have had the following (plane weight - the weight I feel comfortable on a plane, because I love to travel, the weight when I had my first baby, the weight before I had my first baby - he just turned 21 this week - my weight after my honeymoon (1988), now I'm working towards what I weighed the day I got married) Don't judge your success by what you see posted. We all lose differently and you have to set your own personal mini goals. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

i felt that way too. i think we all do. I look at things differently now....i make better choices because i have less room in regards to what i can consume. i actually like the fact that I have this tool to help me look at life differently...i used to eat for nothing and just because...but having the sleeve..i honestly find myself only eating when i am hungry. it will get better...i am not that far out from you...but i believe it will get better.

if I were at 183 I would have tried diet and exercise way before considering surgery. In fact I thought surgery was because you already tried it and it didn't work. I feel confident stating that I have tried it all and failed.. so I can't say I wish I would have tried AFTER the fact. its done now.. so far all you complained about was that you can't eat more.. well I have read lots of posts where people regret it for about the first month then end up loving it. so what you feel I think is normal .. but yes everyone should try other methods before resorting to surgery... you have to be the smallest person I've heard that got wls.. I really hope you change your mind and learn to love it..

It gets SOOOOO much better, I can now eat pretty much anything I want, just not the amounts I want! : )

I can remember a few days in there when I felt like, "what the _____ did I do?!!!" but you are in the hardest part right now between 2-6 weeks are the toughest for most people, then the dreaded stall WILL come when your body is like, "what did you do to me?" and it holds onto the wieght you will lose nothing from between 10 days to as long as 4 weeks though most don't go beyond 3 week stalls. Then all the sudden you will lose like mad and feel so much better.

It gets better...in the meantime, sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk!!
God gave us people to love and things to use, not things to love and people to use.

Considering in just 38 pounds you will be at your goal weight...I would focus on that as opposed to something you have no control over.

    Heaviest: 387 pounds (1999)
Weight last appointment prior to surgery: 265 (6/29/12)
Weight beginning of two-week full liquid/high protein diet: 265 (7/25/12)
Weight day of surgery (8/8/12): 253.2
    ONEDERLAND: 12/10/12: 198
    100 pounds lost 7/3/13
Reached goal weight of 160 pounds on 9/9/13 (1 year, 1 month, and 1 day post-op)

When you went from 387 to 265 , you didn't think you could keep on without surgery?

I am with you! I tried hard to lose weight on my own, I really never wanted surgery but after almost 10 years of trying to lose post thyroid 70 lbs I made the awful decision to do this and it is one of the biggest regrets of my life. I am almost 4 wks out and I cant eat anything. Nothing stays down. I feel so sick and weak and tired of regurgitating that I am about to pull out my hair! I wish I could go back to before 10/3. I wish I could take it back. It is so bad the weightloss means nothing to me because I dont even look healthy. I am currently waiting to have an endoscopy 11/6 to see if anything is wrong w/ my sleeve that is causing me to not be able to hold hardly anything. So I am with you, I pray for the day I can say I am glad I did this, I pray for the day I am happy I spent all this money for something that is wrecking havoc on my health! I cant believe it is possible to live on such little nutrition and fluids for almost a month. This is affecting every area of my life because i dont even have the energy to want to do activities of daily living. Right now I can honestly say I rather be fat, then feel this bad.

Wow rigwelder, I'm surprised a surgeon was even willing if your goal was only 53 lbs. I hope both you and WhatHaveIDone heal quickly and get to a normal life.

I am so sorry that everyone does not have the smooth recovery that most do. As thing gets easier and you recover your mental attitudes will greatly improve also. It is possible you do have a major complication where the sleeve was not done 100% correctly and may need further assistance but more than likely it is just the healing process. Be sure to communicate all your concerns to your surgeons. Wishing both of you a quick recovery and success on your weight loss journey.

Highest weight 440 lbs. lowest weight 9.5 lbs at birth
    Date of surgery weight 340
    12 week checkup 301 BMI <50 yeah!
Weight on birthday 3/24/48 Goal 285 would be nice.

I am 3 months and it does get better. During the first 8 weeks of postop, I had a ton of complications. I thought I ruined my life. I was depressed and hospitalized about 5 times. However, it turned around and I am down 46 lbs. Life is good -- I am taking yoga, zumba, kickboxing, and weightlifting classes. I went from a 24w to a 13/14 is 3 short months. You will be able to eat anything you want soon -- but you need to make good choices. I was at a family function today and I brought my own food -- I had lobster, steamed spinach, and a roasted potato (in very small qty), while the rest of my family ate huge bowls of pasta with meatballs. I was actually ok with it. I thought I'd be a freak, but I was happy eating -- because I was satisfied and full. I didn't go back for seconds like my family members. I felt energized and empowered. You will get there too!
