    Default Thinking about gastric sleeve

Hi, anyone out there been to dr Kim and what experience did you have? I am considering having the sleeve in December. I am 80 pounds overweight and tried everything!!! I am miserable. Will I be able to drink wine after having the sleeve?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Alexandra from Texas

My surgery was done in TJ, by doctor Quinones, for 4k. I don't know anything about Dr. Kim, but I had an amazing experience. As far as the alcohol, I have heard there is a rule to not have any for a year after surgery. I had a taste of some Jack Daniels honey, and I didn't have any trouble (Im three weeks post op)...bare in mind I barely took a sip of it though. On the other hand, I took some cough syrup, with codine the other day, about a half a table spoon, and it knocked me flat on my ass in less than 5 mins, so things like that and alcohol do hit you harder, faster.

Rule of thumb is no alcohol for a year. There is also a study, well more than one, that women in particular could be come alcoholics after WLS. I think it has to trading the food addiction for another one. Gambling and sex ranked up there too.

Mainly you don't want to drink empty calories since your pouch is so small.

I had surgery with Dr Kim last Dec. he was great. His office staff is so nice. You don't actually get to see much of the Dr though. It's a mostly visits with the staff. I didn't have any complications after surgery and I am 90 lbs down at almost 11months out. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

I have drunk alcohol on two occasions since having the sleeve - advice in UK doesn't seem to be so stringent about alcohol. I had a glass and a half of wine at a charity ball on the weekend, and i had a glass of whisky at a work leaving 'do' last week. I don't feel any different about alcohol than I used to - which is I can absolutely take it or leave it. I don't tend to drink at home except on special occasions, so would notice if something suddenly changed about that.

Haha, I never drink cause I just don't like it. But if it affects that quick I might have to try

Hi, welcome to the group! This is a great site for support. I just decided to have WLS. I have a friend who used Dr. Kim about a year ago, and he has lost most all of his excess weight. He feels great and is like a whole new person. His experience with Dr. Kim was excellent. I'm self pay, if I had insurance, I probably would have chosen Dr. Kim. But since I'm paying the bill, I'm going to Mexico for my sleeve.

    Good luck!!! Keep us posted.
