Thumbs down one year later - no success

it has been one year already since being sleeved. i have lost only 25 pounds and i am not losing any more. i feel conned especially as i exercise so much and eat well.
for the last 2 months i have been bingeing and eat almost every hour cos i just cannot feel satiated.

does any one had a similar experience or any doctors out there who can offer advise?

I would talk to your nutrionist and reveiw what you have been eating. Maybe adjustments in that will help.

Hi, you are not that heavy, are you quite short? Maybe you are at the right weight. I hope you find happiness.

Can you provide more details? How much do you exercise? WHat kind? How often?

How much do you eat? What do you eat? How often? Do you drink with your food? How much protein do you get?

Do you get enough liquid per day? Do you get enough sleep? Do you take your multivitamin?

Finally is your goal weight realistic?

How much do you exercise? i exercise 4 times a week for an hour or 80 minutes. i try and aim for 2 hours but thats only happened sometimes. i do cardio on some days, zumba, and strength training. i alternate depending on time and fatigue factors.

How much do you eat? i eat alot !! thats the problem today i had special k cereal with yougurt for breakfast, about quarter bowl, then i had 2 ginger biscuits and an oat cake at 10, at 11 i had a 4 finger kitkat . for lunch i had a packet of instant noodles and unjury protein chicken soup, at 4pm i had tea with a whole wheat toast and a teaspoon of peanut butter. i have done 1200 calories ALREADY i am hardly feeling full or satisfied and i have had 900ml of water.

so much for going through the pain and stress of surgery. i spoke to my surgeon as i think he did a larger sleeve for me grrrrrrrrr and he advised that i try xenical.

Do you get enough liquid per day? Do you get enough sleep? Do you take your multivitamin?

Finally is your goal weight realistic?

I haven't had the sleeve yet, so I am NO expert, but it sounds like you're eating way too many carbs. I hope your nutritionist can help!

Your exercise routine is great. So keep up with that.

I am afraid you need to change your eating. You have to eat your protein first in each meal. About 2 to 3oz of solid protein. I think that is 40 to 60g roughly.

Once we are further out, we can eat more and I do feel hungry. Eating simple carbs just make it worst. I can eat every hour on the hour if I eat simple carbs all day.

If I'm not mistaken in my calculations you weigh around 138 lbs. That puts you with a BMI of 25.2 at 5 foot 2 inches, which is just barely overweight. As some of the others have mentioned, I would talk to your surgeon and nutritionist to see what adjustments you need to make.

I just saw your pics. From what I see it was a success. Don't be so hard on yourself. Try to stay on track. You might feel like it wasn't a success but it will be a failure if you give up and backtrack. Gain weight is possible. So please don't punish yourself by going back to old habits. Good luck. You look great!

Ok.... I just had to convert your weights into pounds. Is your goal weight seriously 99 pounds?????????? That is certainly NOT realistic!!!! Is your surgeon aware of your goal weight? You are currently 138lbs, to be a healthy BMI at your height, you only need to lose 2 lbs.... your goal weight would put your BMI in the underweight category! I'm not sure if you have any issues with loose skin, maybe not because your starting weight was quite low to begin with, but if you did that could account for the 2lbs. If you are exercising like you say you are, you're probably building up some good muscle mass which is replacing any fat and does weigh more but will leave your body looking much healthier and toned. I'm honestly really concerned about you.... I think you have a serious body image issue. If your goal is to be 99lbs and underweight, you might want to seek some help from a therapist. The purpose of this surgery is to help us get healthy, not get sickly thin. Yes, maybe your carbs are a little high, but if you are consuming less than 2000 calories you're still eating pretty decent for being a year out, especially when you are doing such vigorous exercise. I think it's less of a food issue and more that you're body is just settling into a comfortable place. Please find someone you can talk to. I think you should be proud of where you are at. It's not a terribly unhealthy place to be and you've made positive changes to your lifestyle. I think you could make some small adjustments and maybe shake another 10lbs, but I really don't think you need more then that. Good luck and I hope you can get a healthier perspective.

I completely agree with aclabombard13! You looked great to start with and are very slim now. Therapy might be in your future. That, along with a lot more protien consumed before those carbs. I would say 120 pounds is the lowest you really want to go. A lot of my friends are between 5' and 5'3" and I can tell you for a fact that they are all between 130 pounds and 160 pounds. They all look FABULOUS. especially the 160 pounds friend, but she weighs that much, because she has a lot more muscle than the others.

Sounds like you may have unrealistic expectations. Weight loss surgery is designed for very overweight/obese people to reduce down to something closer to normal.

As far as eating, you will feel much more satiated if you eat dense proteins FIRST at every meal. So, that means, eat a boiled egg and a slice of ham, not breakfast cereal. Eat sandwich meat and cheese for lunch. Eat a protein like chicken, fish or whatever for dinner and add a side of green veggies or salad. For snacks, have greek yogurt (no added sugar) or beef jerky or something high in protein.

Eating a bunch of noodles, bread and other carbs not only trigger hunger but they are also slider foods. That means that you can fit more in before feeling full.

Most of us that are a ways out from surgery would be hungry/grazing eating such a carb heavy menu as you shared. I know this is really different then the way we used to eat or even the way we may WANT to eat, but dense proteins as your main sustinance is how you succeed with WLS - period. It doesn't work well any other way.

Ask me how I know, I failed miserably with the lapband before I was sleeved and this was clearly one of my issues too.
