WOW! It seems like yesterday I was only 1 week post-op. What a ton of changes the last year has brought. Did I say WOW? Most of the time I feel like I am walking around in someone else's body-here are some things I know for all of you newbies.
The first month is the hardest. I seriously don't think I will ever eat jello again. Or broth. I find it hard to believe I still like soup.
I didn't have any complications after my VSG. I have never had a stall (which is hard to believe). By month 7 I had lost 105#'s and a lot of my hair. No-I am not bald. It is just thin. The hair loss lasted from month 4-9(ish) for me and it is coming back in. I take 5000 mcg of biotin a day, a multi-vitamin, calcium, Vitamin D and C. I used chewable multi's for the first 8 months and have gone back to my pill form.
I use My Fitness Pal and try to track most days. I do get some form of exercise every day. I like to shake it up-but I am lucky that I don't mind exercising & I have 2 friends that I go with daily. Walking, skiing (soon!), the gym, rollerblading. Something new for me-I am going to try YOGA this Saturday (which marks my 1 year surgiversary). Find something you like and stick with it. I am sure that is why I have been successful.
There are a few things I still struggle with-eating fast. I have done it for 52 years and I still manage to get sick a couple times a month. Weird thing is-something that I have eaten many times before; then try it again and BAM...sleevie doesn't like it! Bummer of it is-carbs and sugar still taste good and stay down really well!!! I won't lie-I am finding some of my bad old habits are trying to rear their ugly heads. Most days it isn't a big deal-others it is a struggle. So, I still have days where my food choices aren't the best. I have maintained my current weight (within 2-3 pounds up or down) since May 2012. That in itself is the most amazing part. I still worry that someday I will wake up and be fat again. In fact-I worry about that quite a bit. Probably should get some counseling to work on that issue.
At month 5 I had my gallbladder out-very common for rapid weight loss patients to have issues with this. I was down for about 5 days.
So-would I do this again? In a heartbeat. Absolutely. I weigh what I did in high school and have never been healthier! Here are some stats:
Old Size New Size
18 pants 8-10 depending on brand
2XL shirts small or medium
size 10 underwear Size 6
44C Bra 36B
Cholestrol 166
Bloodpressure 104/62
Resting heart rate is lower.
Some NSV:
Airplane seats fit my butt now!!!
I can wrap a regular size towel around myself and have leftovers!
Eating out is cheaper-hubby and I share
I don't have the aches & pains I used to
I feel sexy again-can I just say NICE?
OK-I am done rambling. Thanks for reading. Hang in there. You can do it-you are so worth it!!!
I wish I knew how to post pics-they are worth a 1000 words. All I can say is BYE BYE 105#'s!
