I am a little over 3 weeks post op and still having a lot of nausea, and because of this I don't get my water or protein in. Did anyone else experience this and what did you do.
Water can be hard...I would suggest peppermint tea, or a little bit of ginger tea to help with the nausea. I didn't have it very much, I just didn't like water that was unflavored, I've had more nausea as more foods are introduced and sometimes eating too fast - but a bit further out than where you are now. Hang in there, you do want your fluids in.
I am still having issues with it and I was sleeved on 8/22. I can't drink water just plain any more. I have to keep the crystal light or wylers flavored singles with me to drink water. I am finding that more teas or juice are better for me. I saw my doctor and she gave me some nausea meds. I have found that when I eat too soon after drinking or sometimes if I wait too long before drinking or eating I will get it. It is very hard to keep up with the protein and water when you feel like you are going to throw up. I am still struggling to get my 100 grams of protein in and I can go all day without eating or drinking. But I am noticing that I am getting thirsty now when I go too long without drinking. I would say find something that doesn't upset your stomach too much. I like my water cold so I keep it on ice. Maybe try drinking it warm or doing some tea to get some fluids into your system. Those crystal light packages were a GOD send for me. I have fallen off the wagon on my water drinking as I am trying to concentrate more on my food intake. But I am going to start drinking water again. I would say also what helped was yogurt and applesauce for me. For some reason when I have eaten too much or some of the wrong things and I get nausea if I eat some yogurt or applesauce it seems to help calm my tummy down. Then I go back to more of a liquid or very soft foods the next day and it helps. You have to push through it and if you can't eat without getting nausea try some soups with some protein powder mixed in (unflavored protein powder). That's something that I did not do before. I would just not eat and I wound up getting very very light headed and lacked energy to get through my day. Hope this helps!!
Are you being given any anti-nausea meds? Sometimes it's important to break a cycle of nausea. I was prescribed sublingual melts for nausea because I had dry heaves the first couple of days, and they sent me home with some as well. I have taken them very occasionally when I've felt slightly dodgy - I'd rather nip it in the bud. But mostly I've been fine.
What you are feeling sounds normal. It takes a few weeks to be able to tolerate drinking water...which is definately a change to our pre-op routines. Warm herbal tea, Sobe Lifewater 0 (made with stevia), try a few diferent things. I have stayed away for drinks with artifical sweetners. It takes a few weeks to heal and find your balance with fluids and food.
