Default Getting sleeved at 50 is this OK!!!

I was 43 when I got the Lap-band, then 3 1/2 yrs later after loseing 100pds my band slipped. It was horrible for about 6 months, then I ended up in the emergency room doing surgery to remove it because I could not eat or drink I was dehydrated. So I was happy the band was gone maybe a little to happy because I gained every bit of that 100 pds back. So now I want to have the sleeve and my date is May 25th with Dr Balette in The Woodlands Texas. But since then I found out that I have a disease gallbladder so I will get the gallbladder removed the same time I get sleeved. My problem is I have to pay cash because my ins. only covers once in a lifetime W/L surgery. That SUCK!!! Because that was not my fault I think it was seriously the drs. That would be Dr. Spivak in Houston Tx. So now I'm thinking omgosh I'm 50 am I doing the right thing. I hope!! Any suggestions!!!

I sure hope it's OK to do at 50 since I just had mine done and I'm 50 LOL
I think it's better at 50 than 51!! Might your insurance pay for a portion of the surg since it should cover the gallbladder removal? Go for it!!

Sleeved at 50 - is it ok?

    It' better be.

I'm turning 50 in 11 days and my surgery is sometime in July!

A sleeved 50 is the new 30 (with a smaller tummy)!

    LOL

All time highest weight: 377 lbs.
Sleeved (with some minor complications) June 13th 2011 - I weighed 295 lbs!
Since my surgery I have loss: 85lbs

I'm 58 and was sleeved 3 weeks ago. I had 2 days of discomfort, then all was fine. I took 2 weeks off work, but could have gone back after 1 week. I'm exercising 30 minutes a day, have more energy, losing weight and feel great!

I'm so happy to hear all the results. I guess I just felt like such a failure after the band was taken out. I thought this is easy I will never gain that weight back well that wasn't true. I have to have the tool (Sleeve). So May 25th come on!!!!!

I had my sleeve April 12. I am 64 years old. I had the original intestinal bypass in 1973. I had to have it reversed 5 years ago because it ruined both my kidneys. I have stage 5 kidney disease and I had no problems at all with the surgery. I have not had any pain medicine since 3 hours after the surgery. I have had no problems eating ( some days I eat more than others) and even went swimming for 45 minutes yesterday.

Your age should not be a problem.

    Good luck!

I had my sleeve done at age 54 ... a little more than 4 1/2 months ago. I have no regrets, none! Some say their only regret is that they didn't have it done sooner; that was not an option for me. As soon as my insurance plan added it as a covered procedure (about 2 years ago), I had been thinking about it. But doing it earlier was not an option as dealing with my husband's cancer and subsequent metastasis took first priority. Now, he has been cancer free for over a year; and I have had my sleeve long enough to reach Onederland! Life is good, and I wish you the very best!

I am age 56 and had my op 7 weeks ago, was up and about next day home in 3 days and apart from a little pain and wind the first week I was up and running on day 8 completly feeling great. Outside wounds healed within 14 days and I really didnt feel like I had had an operation by then. Everyone is different but on the whole I think the sleeve is nothing to worry about re your age but remember just because you can't see the wounds inside your body they are still mending and you still cant do too much too soon as they take longer to heal than the outside.

Good luck I am sure you will be fine.
