Just had my sleeve, 3 days ago - but I am soooo hungry and smell og food makes me crazy!!

I really hoped that the sleeve would remove my hunger right away, but thats not the case. Actually I dont feel full after eating my soups or youghurt I feel really hungry
Is it normal, or its just like that the first days? Can I do anything about it? Or do I just have to get used to my new life??
Of course I don't eat other than the doctor said, I will not get sick and doing something i not"allowed" to, but its pretty hard and my mood is really down

Hello - I am three weeks out and I had the same type of experience. I honestly could not believe how hungry I was for the first two weeks after the surgery. I have read that sometimes it takes a little longer for the hunger sensation to go away for some people. I guess we are a couple of the unlucky few! After I started adding the soft foods it became much better. I did have an enormous urge to chew also. I was so sick of broth and jello I wanted to chew something ... anything. It will get better. I was hungry right away also and still have not lost my normal sense of hunger if I go too long between meals. Its an unfortunate reality that not all of us lose our hunger hormone after surgery- from what I have seen here on the forum it seems at least half do and half don't. After post op week 2 when I could eat soft foods I felt SO much better and have had no problem ever since- now when I am hungry, I eat- after 2 or 3 oz, I am full and not hungry again until my next meal time. I think its perfect, personally, to be able to still enjoy food and have the sensation of wanting to eat instead of force feeding myself without any hunger at all.

I personally didn't feel hungry at all for the first week, this week I'm starting to crave protein foods like meat, rather than hunger so much. So sorry I'm not much help to you.

I felt super hungry too, only tip i have is i made sugar free ice pops to sit and suck on to help a little , and it did! it started to drop a little once i could eat softs as there is more range of protein foods to help take the hunger away more . Tillykke! Congrats on the sleeve! hang on in it gets easier!!.

I'm not sure if I'm hungry but I am very focussed on what I'm going to eat to get my protein in - so spending far more time thinking about food, recording what I'm eating etc than I did before. But only 18 days post-op so still getting to know my sleeve.

I didnt really get hungry other than head hunger. My mind was telling me I should be hungry so i thought i was. But I have done fine and still dont really get hungry like I used to before sleeve.

I'm only a week out but haven really had any REAL hunger, although when I smelled a bacon butty I could have chewed my own arm off! Certain food really gets my head hunger going. I've not had a full feeling either. I seem to be constantly drinking something, water, tea, milk, soup. It's hard & I'd like "proper" food but in a week or so I can start introducing soft food.

I was so hungry after I got home from surgery I cried. I thought hunger would go away but when I smelled a home cooked meal, I was a mess. I got an attitude at the world, like how can you eat in front of me??? But it gets better. You'll see. Best of luck on your journey!!

I was also very hungry the week I could only have liquids - I could hardly wait until I could have cottage cheese and it was amazing! I don't know why some of us didn't lose the urge but like someone said above, I am hungry during meals but not too much in between and am not a big snacker so it doesn't really bother me. Good luck!

I feel exactly where all you ladies are coming from. I am 7 days out and In the hpspital I was having such horrible hunger pains..... I have been dringking alot of water along with solid food but let me tell u... U will throw it all back up....... I don't feel full either but i guess everyone body is different. My sister had the gastric bypass and she said when she was able to start eating soft foods like grits that when she started feeling the sensation of not being hungry... hopes this helps

I am 3 days out and have been craving a salad like crazy...so I took a teaspoon of Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing and took a few sips and it was enough to satisfy me. I don't think we are truly hungry, especially if we are keeping up with our fluids, but the simple fact of not being able to have what we want to eat makes its seem that we're hungry.

Thank god i have not been hungry at all. But my mind is telling me CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE...i can handle the cravings much better now though. i have not caved in to it, and i have never been able to ignore a craving so strong before. I hope it gets better after you start some solid food. I never really did much liquids, maybe two days...then i started in with smooth food. i just chewed semi soft things until nothing left. my stomach has handled it fine and it's given me a lot of variety. i dont recommend it though and its definitely not what i SHOULD be doing. But im able to eat lots of soups, even chunkier ones and just chew it smooth...i can't eat much, maybe a quarter cup, but maybe that is why i have not felt hunger.

I noticed that the feeling of discomfort I had that I thought was hunger, was actually acid discomfort. It was not relieved by eating. However, once I started on TECTA, the sensation went away. Now at 3 1/2 months out, if I get this hunger tummy discomfort, it is usually when I missed my Tecta. Also for those of you early on, you will get much more satisfaction when you can eat more protein later on.
