Favorite, COMPLETELY Unintentional, Backhanded Compliments You've Received About Your Weight Loss...

OK, so as the thread title says, I'm curious to hear people's experiences with comments where they know WITHOUT the shadow of a doubt that the person was NOT being rude or snarky or catty, but the compliment came out the wrong way, and instead of getting mad, just made you chuckle and move on instead.

My personal favorite thus far: a male friend of mine that I've known for over 4 years recently saw me last month at a housewarming party for close mutual friends of ours. He was REALLY drunk, which is why I know had he been sober, he never would have put it the way he did. We were talking about weight loss and getting healthy and he goes "I'm not trying to sound like a total ass, but you look SO much better than you used to."

LOL.

Had he been sober I would have said "Gee thanks, but that's a pretty rude way of putting it, and I guess you thought I was ugly before!" (And yes, I really would have said just that, or something equally direct, because I am known for being blunt among friends.) But because he WAS indeed 3 sheets to the wind and then some, I just laughed and carried on.

My older brother, whom I haven't seen in a few months didn't comment on my weight loss. My hubby finaly said, "aren't you going to compliment your sister on her great weight loss? She's lost 75 lbs".....my brother said "wow, you were even bigger than I thought to have lost that much. What an ass! I just stared at him and said "if that's a compliment, I'll take a dig any day!

He meant it in a good way. LOL. My husband looked at me this morning getting out of bed and says "aw, look at my skinny wife, her legs are so skinny"...I said, "that's a shame because I didn't want to lose weight in my legs", I pointed at my belly and said "this is what I want gone".

right now the comment about my weight is "you look really healthy" so doesn't that imply that I didn't before?

Nothing really this time around but many years ago when I lost a lot of weight a coworker/friend told me that if I lost any more weight I'd fall through my asshole! Subtle...not! LOL! Same guy...OMG! You have no boobs!

Not in relation to weight loss (yet) but at work I am inconsistent about how I approach my appearance. Some days (and particularly if I'm going to a top brass meeting) I'll put on a full face of slap (make-up to US cousins) and straighten my hair etc, but other days I go very au naturel although still dressed appropriately professionally I would add. A couple of years ago, I went to the same building two consecutive days the first fully groomed, and the second day in my more casual state and the administrator said to me on the second day "you know, you looked really good yesterday". I laughed, and she said "why don't you do that every day?" and I said "because it doesn't make me any better at being a psychologist".

I know I won't be seeing any of my co-workers until I go back in 4 more weeks. So they will not have seen me for a total of 6 weeks. I am sure that I will get an array of crazy remarks.....Can't wait ;P ......Hugs Judy

I get that comment a lot when I wear make up too (which happens twice a year maybe). My response is always "because I'm too damn lazy to care"

Well if it wasnt that I LOVE my co-workers .I think I would have alot of enemies right now. There comments are just too much . The worst one was. Hey are you MISSING A ASS.. Wow that really bothered me. Its NO ASS, Druppy ASS, Toothpick legs, Ur melting away, They pass by me & say .UPPPS did not see you. You blend into the wall. WOWWWWWW

Hubby was snuggling up with me on the couch and he squeezed my upper leg...."wow, you don't even feel like the same person. Where's all the cellulite?" LOL

A very elderly couple says to my husband as we are walking out of church"Where did you get this good looking woman? We sure like her better than the other one!" God love them LOL!
