    Default Gastric sleeve regret

    Hi,
I'm writing this because my husband had the sleeve about 1 year ago and although he has lost around 30 pounds , he's very frustrated because of what he can eat , which isn't much . Most food makes him sick , spicy food makes him sick . He does drink protein drinks but after awhile you get bored eating the same food every day . If he could have a reverse he would , he's not happy at all and mostly has been depressed. If he could eat a little more food or different food or stretch his stomach a bit it might help .
    Thanks
    Maddie

This sounds almost impossible to me...he had the surgery a year ago? He has also lost only 30 pounds? Something is definitely wrong if this is the case. Are you sure you didn't mean to say he's a month after surgery? I'm 5 months after surgery and it depends upon what I'm eating but I can eat about 2 oz of real solid foods sometimes 3 oz. The slider foods are of course much easier to get down but I never do more than 4 ounces there. When I drink I can drink pretty normally and do 8oz or more at a time and of course drink throughout the day.

I just don't know what to say if what you've written is true. Have you contacted the doctor and nutritionist? It's a very long time to just be eating so little and mostly protein drinks for a year.

What kind of meal plan did his doctor put him on? He's got to be eating something or he would have lost a lot more than 30lbs in a year. Has he received any support from his doctor and, if so, has he been following the plan given to him?

Has he been exercising? That can really make a difference with depression. I agree that you should encourage him to seek support on this board and hopefully from his surgeon. It's really hard to comment more without more information.

    hi Maddie
I am very curious as everyone else about the 30 lb weight loss. Was he only needing to lose like 50 lbs or something? If so, then i would understand the very small weight loss. I think you must have meant to write he had surgery a month ago.

Some things he can eat that are easier to go down are cottage cheese and greek yogurt. Those have good protein in them. Tell him it will get better. I'm almost positive you meant to write he had the surgery only a month or two ago.

I am sorry for the challenge that your husband has had since his surgery. I will say this does not make a lot of sense to me. Has he gone back to his doctor?

    Hi,
Yes it has been nearly 1 year since the sleeve and he does see his dr. On a regular basis .
The Dr. Says he on track and has lost the right amount of weight. My problem is how can my husband eat different food without getting sick there has to be something better out there than what he's been eating . This is what he eats everyday , cottage cheese , applesauce, 2protin drinks , sherbert, Cheerios . And when we have cook outs he try's say a hamburg (no bun) maybe some pasta and he will get sick. I had the gastric bypass 11years ago and although I had some troubles , I'm glad I had it . I know the bypass and the sleeve are different I just didn't think he would feel this way. He saw that I lost 100 pounds and we both thought the sleeve was a good idea.

It is not normal to not be able to eat some hamburger one year after surgery. Is he eating too fast or trying to fit more in his stomach than he should? If you eat too much, you get sick. But it could be something is wrong. He should be able to eat dense protein easily at a year out. Time to take him for a second opinion with a new doctor. Just my opinion.

I would be curious to know what size Bougie your husbands doctor us for the surgery. I would also se another doctor and have them do a xray of the sleeve to see if possibly the doctor did not staple the stomach correctly. Also IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE THAT IF YOUR HUSBAND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO KEEP REAL FOOD DOWN FOR OVER A YEAR THAT HE ONLY LOST 30 POUNDS. WHAT WAS HIS STARTING WEIGHT?
