    Default Eating and Drinking

Can someone please help me, I have been unsuccessful at getting the protein shakes down and vomit up everything I try to eat just about,I dont know what is happening,I had my surgery on 8-22-12 in TJ,Mexico and before I left I didn't speak to a nutrionist or deitian for instructions on how to eat and drink. I know I can't eat and drink at the same time, but why am I varping so much, should I space my bit every 5 min or so, if anybody can help answer these questions please elaborate, Thanks

My nutritionist said to drink half the shake wait 30 min and drink the other half. Have you tried the unjury ckn broth? It has protein in it or get some protein powder and add to other liquids , like crystal light or milk. Try until you find something you can keep down. It seems a little strange that you have no instruction from your dr.

When drinking only take sips. Too much too fast can cause vomiting. Jello - dissolve in your mouth before swallowing. If you are trying pureeds yet, the same thing small little bites. Use a baby spoon for size. Go slow.

    Hi Rennee,

I posted this earlier to help those pre op diet; however it is also for post-op instructions and for lifetime:

Don't forget to check out the Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Diet by Joseph E. Chebli, MD, FACS....as mentioned below. This will helpe those pre op (prior to the surgery on what to eat and what to do) and post op (after surgery). A meal Schedule example is also provided (when to take your vitamins, meals, drink water, exercise-walk, etc).

This is the most comprehensive list, tips, how to make your food blenderize versus pureed, how many times to chew and what it should be like, common problem foods, foods to avoid, steps from day 1 until months later, and expectations.

This is extremely helpful for me since my surgery isn't until December. It will help me deal with the three day preop of liquid foods.

sip, sip, and sip again. Take it slow and you should get better as time goes on. Good luck to you on your journey and hang in there.
278 was my starting weight before my Lapband in July 2008
199 was my lowest weight with Lapband as of July 2009
79 lbs was my total weight lost with Lapband.
59 lbs was the amount I allowed myself to put back on in 3 years before I said "this has to stop!"

Yes take tiny sips. Big gulps just don't work when you are first sleeved especially. It may take a long while to drink a protein drink but it takes patience that first month. I agree with the other poster who said to try unjury protein broth! Excellent idea! Maybe you just need something warm to agree with your tummy.

    Starting BMI 2/3/2012 - 38
Goal BMI-24! REACHED and BELOW!! 10/2012 Current BMI 21.0!
The best goals reached are the ones hardest earned.

I have a few more days before my surgery but have started trying out different types of protein and drinks....I'm not sure if this will help anyone, but I have finally found ONE that I can get down and it not make me cringe LOL..... I ordered the Nector Crystal Sky, it turns blue... anyway, I use half a pack, and add it to a half frozen bottle of Sobe, the Black and Blue Berry flavor, 0 calories, and no aspartame as far as I can see and its not carbonated. I drink just enough of it to give me some shaking action room pour it in and shake away.... personally I have to drink it while it still half frozen, but its actually not half bad. I wait about an hour or so and drink the other half of the pack. I figure if I can do this four times a day I'll get the level of proteins I need until I start to eat meats, beans and whatnot to make up the difference! Hope this might help someone else!!

If you're not keeping anything down (including water), please make sure you see a doctor before you get too sick. You may have a stricture. I waited too long with the same symptoms and my sleeve collapsed and became unrepairable.

If you CAN keep fluids down, as the other posters suggested, slow down, sip, sip, sip.
