    Default Excessive Sweating...

Hi all - I am fairly new to this forum in terms of posting and I am hoping to gain some insight on this issue that is driving me nuts:

I been googling for days now on this ridiculous sweating issue that makes my hair look like I just hopped out of the shower from just plain ole' walking around. (I have been following my diet to a 'T' (am currently down 36lbs-so I feel I must doing something right?), have been walking everyday as instructed, taking my B12-multivitamin-calcium citrate,-iron) and drinking plenty of water) No crazy exertion as of yet, considering I am only 3 1/2 weeks out from my surgery (Vertical Sleeve end of July). Prior to surgery I had NEVER sweat like this, post surgery it has been such an embarrassing thing to deal with! I have been searching through multiple forums & websites and have not really found an answer as to why this sweating is so excessive. I do not sweat anywhere else on my body as bad as I do on the edges of my hairline (this is so bad that at times it will even drip onto my shoulders, looking like I just walked in from a slight drizzle outside?). I noticed from my research, multiple people state they actually stopped sweating post surgery, but I do not see many cases where people state the opposite and if they did state this, there really is not an explanation as to WHY? I have brought this up to my doctor when I went for my follow up and he really had no answer for me? I understand fully that everyone is different, but I am just trying to find a possible answer as to why this may be occurring, if it will go away, what exactly may occur within the body that would result in this condition? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated...thanks in advanced!

I haven't heard of this before either. Interesting. It might be something to bring up at one of your followup appointments.

Well, when I went for my first follow-up I did ask my doctor and he really did not have anything answer for me. I did post the same question on another forum website and some has mentioned it may be: Vagus nerve irritation? I do have a follow up soon, in which I now armed with a medical term he may/may not be able to rule out? I just hope it does subside as time goes on, I had never experienced sweat like this from very light/mild activity. Prior to the surgery I was always cooler than others, even with the weight on me. I have had no other issues since the surgery. Came out of surgery and jumped out of the Surgical Bed to go to the bathroom - never felt pain, never used any pain medications (as I have seen in some cases the pain meds may be a side effect), so I guess I should just be grateful this is my only issue. Reading what some people have gone thru, I suppose I really shouldnt complain too much. But thank you once again, I will ask my doctor once again to see what he thinks, considering last visit I mentioned this and he really had no answer. Thanks!

Do you check your temperature when sweating - was the doctor concerned about infection? 292

Temp has been norm. and just got back from the Dr and he really doesn't seem to have an idea. On the bright side though, he did say if you are sweating a lot you are burning more fat. I am guessing he has no answer for me so he is trying to keep this as a positive thing? He seems to feel this will go away as time goes on...so basically I just need to deal with this for the time being. But thank you for your thoughts!

Don't know if you're male or female, so please don't take offense; any possibility it could be perimenopause?

My apologies, I am female...but too young for my changes! I guess that would be easily explained if that's all it was? Sadly though, my doctor at my follow up had no answer. But on a positive note, he did state as long as you are sweating you usually burn more fat if my heart rate it up...being that I have only been experiencing this when I do any type of movement, walking/cleaning... I suppose I will take it! He seems to feel this will eventually subside as time goes on...one can only hope!

Does drinking ice cold water help? Are you getting dehydrated?

I drink plenty of water daily. I would not say this is due to my water intake. I have been researching this since the 3rd day of surgery when I noticed it, as previously stated, it seems everyone has the opposite reaction - where they are cold? But thank you for the thoughts...

My last guess would be low blood sugar - that will make you sweat.

What is your heart rate like? The body sometimes responds to pain with a higher heart rate even though you may not feel the pain. Other than that I have nothing. Very interesting. Good luck!

I can relate as even prior to my sleeve I could pick up a broom and have a wet head in no time. So sorry you are having this issue. Hope it goes away as fast as it came.
278 was my starting weight before my Lapband in July 2008
199 was my lowest weight with Lapband as of July 2009
79 lbs was my total weight lost with Lapband.
59 lbs was the amount I allowed myself to put back on in 3 years before I said "this has to stop!"

I used to sweat like that, and haven't for some time but I hadn't really noticed that it stopped until I read this. My hair used to get wet in the back by my neck just from housework, but I didn't even feel exerted. I am into blaming everything on hormones at this point. I used to have bad night sweats too but those are gone as well. Hmmm. If it is really bothersome, they can prescribe and antiperspirant, but those are really high in aluminum (at least I think that is the metal). Hope it passes. Mine did!
