dont worry im all will be fine> i had no problems with mine and the people who do have problems are few and far between. the first couple of days are hard and it can be difficult getting used to a new way of eating but before you know it you will be on the road to drastic weight loss.

My dad was the one who was concerned and against me having my surgery. I know it was mostly due to the fact that it's and "elective" surgery and things can go wrong but i just tried to reassure him that #1 i was in great hands with my surgeon and hospital and #2 i had researched this and was making an informed decision. From being on here i knew all the risks and downfalls that were possible but to me this was the right choice and i knew it was, the risks of staying at the weight i was far outweighted the risks of surgery. Before surgery i lost 30+ pounds for insurance so i heard "why do you have to have the surgery if you're doing it on your own now?" the simple answer to me was "5%" ... i had a 5% chance of keeping any weight i lost off without this tool, with it my chance of never seeing it again is 85%, to me that's a no brainer.

The mental adjustment to all of this is not an easy one but it is possible. I LOVED food, it was my comfort, my security, my friend ... now it's a fuel source to keep me going throughout the day. I'm 3 months out and still want for things but i can talk myself out of it ... i can realize that it's what got me to 277lbs to begin with and i don't EVER want to be there again and that it's not going to help me in any way. It's not going to keep me from getting hungry in 1/2 an hour, it's not going to solve anything if i eat it ... the few times i've broken down and had a bite of something i just couldn't get out of my head I just felt disgusting, greasy and heavy and mad at myself for giving in. Times like that make it easier next time to avoid the "no-no" foods, I remember how i felt and don't want to deal with it again.

Try talking to your friend, let her know you're a little nervous too but you know this is going to be a great thing for you, share with her the benefits of thee surgery and let her know that you're committed to it and would really appreciate her support. Believe me, once you get past that first few days of pain and start losing weight it's SO worth it all! Please don't let others concerns effect your decision, my signature line is "The more you love your decisions the less you need others to love them too" ... once i saw that i realized that it's really true, if i was ok with this and my husband was too then it didn't matter what everyone else thought. This is your body and your decision and as far as i'm concerned it's the best thing you can do for you!!! Good luck and keep your chin up!!!

Totally agree with dackn8tr. This is for you! Yes, we seek approval and support from family and friends, but this is for you and your health. Sit down and have a heart to heart with her..... she'll come around.

Support and approval becomes a major factor once we decide to have the surgery. Once I showed everyone how enthused I am, they jumped on board. People think this was a easy decision to come to. They are wrong.... Embrace you decision and people will do the same. Do like I do, whenever I feel discouraged, I log on and read. It's therapy.... Stay encourged

My mother in law was crazy worried. Cried and begged me not to go especially in Mexico. I had her watch the YouTube video of the procedure... She was so impressed that she totally changed her perspective. Today, she's a total supporter and amazed at the results.

You know, it's funny. Over the year that I was making up my mind to be sleeved, I was in the fortunate position to be around many doctors. Every time I mentioned that I was planning on getting sleeved, I got the same reply. "Good for you. This is the best thing you will ever do for yourself!" I heard it at least ten seperate times. Those exact words! Each time, the doctor looked me directly in the eyes when he or she said that, too. It was uncanny!

On the other hand, people who were unfamiliar with the surgery, especially skinny people, tried to talk me out of it.

I was sleeved sixteen days ago. I feel great and I have dropped 29 pounds already! I have gone down a size and I can charge up the stairs without pain or shortness of breath! Already I am feeling benefits. I can't imagine how great I will feel when I meet my goal. The best is yet to come.

My husband and some friends were worried that with weight loss I would change and not want to be around them anymore. To that, I assured them that my body was going to change, but in my heart the love would stay the same. Now my husband and my worried friends are rejoicing with me. They are loving the new very happy and excited me.

You did the right thing by posting here. This is a wonderful supportive group who understand your journey. Keep in touch and best wishes!

my problem lies with the skinny people who have never had to worry about their weight , they try to give me other options like hypnosis, meragna tree extract. ect. ect ect.... i tell them dont you think I have tried 100's of diets , really?????? but over all my immediate family and friends minus one are excited for me . only my older sister is not but i think its more to do with jealousy that she doesn't have the guts to do something about her weight.

You have to ask yourself one thing: Is your life worth another's opinion? Even if it is a friend or family member?

Just educate your friend. She is worried because she loves you. Find out what she is so afraid of and give her the answers! The best reason is that you will be around as her friend for a LOT longer after being sleeved!
