My servings have become much smaller and even then I often put too much on my plate. I purchased a bunch of small plates and ramekins to eta from
Everyone can usually eat lots of popcorn so dont feel bad. Its not gonna hurt you if you just eat it once in awhile. Its just soooo good!
I also use a small plate and I weigh my food on my kitchen scale so I know how much I'm getting in. If i eat to the point of excessive burping... that means I'm making a trip to the ladies', if you know what I mean. So I do try to avoid that if I can. But i have had moments where I've scooped up way too much at first and had to think "wait, I could never eat this much!" So, I can see how this might happen, you kinda do it without even thinking out of habit
Don't feel bad Munchkin.... I went to the movies with my husband last weekend, and I too discovered I could consume a disturbingly large volume of popcorn as well. Biggest slider I've found so far. I will probably only indulge in it on the rare occasion that we go to the movie theater, so I don't feel too bad about it. Besides.... I would've eaten way more pre-sleeve, plus nachos and a soda.
I am usually very cautious not to take that one bite to many because I get hot and clammy and feel awful so I try to put less than I think I need on my tiny little teacup plate if I am still hungry when it is gone I will take one more bite . If I do have leftovers I do the same thing that curious George and Cruzn2lose does I give my dogs my leftovers but I am worried that I might be making them fat is anyone else worried about their dogs and family eating too much to make up for our waste?
I've used a saucer for a plate ever since I was first able to eat a regular solid diet after surgery. I hate washing dishes, whether a dishwasher is present or not, and using a full size plate just didn't make sense to me. Anyway, I always measure and weigh my food, regardless. A 4 ounce tilapia filet and 1/2 cup of vegetables on a saucer makes it look like a HUGE plate of food. And yes, I eat it all, and am satisfied.

My doctor gave me a gift bag leaving the hospital and it had a new plate in it, which is about the size of a salad plate so that is my new plate! My nutritionist kept instilling it in our heads, Eat your protein first, cut it up in small bites, take a bite, put your fork down and chew it 10 to 15 times, once your protein is done then eat your vegtables and your starches last.
Thanks for all your comments, i guess i have to get a smaller plate, I'm just so used to eating a large dinner, and its hard to space the food out when I'm busy during the day.
My dog, Sophie, does get a quite a few more bites from my leftovers now than in the past. WE are making up for it though with more exercise. I am getting her out with me for my morning walk (about 1 1/2 miles) and she LOVES that. She loves it so much that she has become my bark alarm clock between 5:00 and 5:30 so we can get going (that is when it is the coolest) I let her out and usually we get walking by 6:30 so I can be sure to get some fluids in and out before going. Plus in the afternoon I try to take her to the park to retrieve (she has a passion for blue balls, she doesn't retrieve the other color balls) unless it is unbearably hot. I am not worrying about her getting chubby as the leftovers she is getting now are much more healthy than those she got pre-sleeve. She got less volume (cause I wouldn't share as much!) but lesser quality foods (french fries, heavy sauces, etc) Now she may get some fruit, a bit of veg, etc...
Haha, not a full plate, but yes on the 'want to keep eating cause the food is so good but can't' part. Case in point: last night, mac n' cheese. So good, I really wanted more than 3 forkfuls. Before that, it was nachos. I wanted more than the 2 loaded chips it took to fill me up.
I am learning.
I still get hungry. I still crave the same foods. My habit, however, is to OVEReat those foods. And nowadays, 4 oz is overeating! It's quite a lesson to learn.
We use paper plates at my house. And they aren't very big. But sometimes I will catch myself fixing a full plate. I will eat until I'm full and just as you said, I will want to keep eating because it just tastes so good. This happened the other day when my husband BBQ'd some chuck steak and made homemade baked beans. OMG....it was so good. I knew if I kept eating, I would get sick so I took my plate off the table, took the rest of the food and fixed me a lunch for the next day. That way I was guaranteed not to keep eating. When we are sitting down for dinner, we all get up at the same time but if I get up and take my plate away, I can go sit back down to continue whatever conversation we are having without eating.
I try to pay special attention to my food as I'm fixing it. I have read that people use a measuring cup when fixing their plates, and I did that in the beginning. Now if I'm paying attention to my plate as I'm fixing it, I know how much 1/2 cup or 1/4 cup or 3 oz of meat looks like so I don't bother to dirty more dishes. I just have to be very mindful when I'm fixing my plate and pay attention to what I'm doing.
