    Smile Gettin ready

Hi everyone. I have finally decided to get sleeved. My surgery date is scheduled for May 23rd with Dr. Michael Snyder. I am very excited. I found this site trying to find the answer to two questions I forgot to ask my doctor in the meeting I had with him. This inspite of my prepared list. I'll try to remember in my pre-op appoinmtment.

In the meantime I wanted to ask how long do you have to wait to drive. and what is the average time before you can return to work. I have a desk job, and I don't do really any lifting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had surgery on Thursday 3-17, and was driving Monday 3-21...my doctor said no driving over 100 miles without getting out and walking. Then since I had surgery during spring break I took the following week off.

I also have a desk job, although I do a lot of walking around the office. I took 12 days out of work because I traveled to have surgery. You should be able to drive after about 2 days if you have it through laparoscopy. I was walking the afternoon after I had surgery and never had any pain or discomfort.

I was told you can drive as long as you are not taking any pain meds(vicodin ect) and I return to work today after having a week off. I am a vet tech as always moving. I had no problem just tired when I got home

I'm sorry for the late response. I'm new to this whole forum thing, and I've been running like a mad woman this week. I did all of my necessary appointment last week and this week. All I have left is my Pre Op. I am glad to know I will be able to drive relatively soon. Your post was very encouraging. I've been researching for a long time. I think I've mulled bariatric surgery over for about 3 years. Now I'm taking the plunge. I feel ready for the lifetime commitment.

My surgeon didn't say anything about driving, save for don't do it while taking pain meds (no duh, really?)

He did encourage me, that if I had a job that required a lot of moving about or lifting, to take 2 weeks off ... but with my working from within my own home and the heaviest thing I lift is my own arm to turn my headset on, I was back to work 3 days post op.

    Best of luck! And congratulations!
