Default Eating habits and the Sleeve--the Sleeve is just a TOOL!!

I just had to say what's on my mind. When I got the sleeve i knew that the sleeve is just a tool for weight loss. I also have to change my eating habits all the way around. I don't wanna go back to eating the same things I did before the Sleeve because those foods are what got me fat in the first place. I have to think about about nutrition and what is good for my body. Our little stomachs only hold 3 oz, so am i going to eat mashed potatoes that have absolutely NO nutritional value or am I going to eat fish? I just know me...if I eat potatoes..ima want some fried chicken!!! LOL Im from the South so that goes hand in hand, So I know I have to change my eating habits or in the end things will be bad for me. I just see people talking about eating pizza, potatoes, chips etc 3 and 4 weeks postop and I honestly don't want to see people fail, so that is why i wanted to speak out!!

I know what you mean.I was absolutely horrified when i saw that people were eating pizza!! i couldnt believe it. i cant imagine eating pizza or anything like that. i have been working really hard on eating the right food. i have not even eaten potatoes yet, just because they dont have any nutritional value, ive just started my soft foods, and seem to be satisfied... so far and hopefully it will stay that way through all of the different stages!! it's a long haul but we'll be fine!!

I have a little different point of view. It's not just what you eat - it's the quantity and the amount of exercise that is included. I don't see "thin" people only eating "heathy" foods - I see them being smart about the amount they eat and diligent about the amount of exercise they get. That's the model I am following.

Since my surgery, I've eaten many of the things I enjoy. I just eat much less than I would before and I exercise. And, the weight keeps coming off. It's a very satisfying existence.

I would hate to think I could never have a slice of pizza again. Or, some mashed potatoes. I've learned I can enjoy a slice of pizza and have no desire to eat more. And, a little mashed potatoes and gravy tastes great, and that's all I need. And that glass of wine doesn't set me back a bit. But, to each their own. Everyone has to determine what will work for them and adjust their life accordingly. It's about choices and having the personal commitment to abide by what produces the results you need... not questioning others for their choices.

    Best wishes.

So happy to find this thread tonight! Got sleeved Thursday. Went to hockey game this eve and watched the pizza and pop corn and nacho eaters and even tho I never really ate much except for the pizza I felt weird. Yes the wanting of a bite but also knowing I need to make healthy choices in the future with a treat when I see fit. And yes.....exercise...I used to be a runner and after injuring my legs and not being expected to walk again and slowly gaining 90 lbs I am looking forward to exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

Oh I wasn't saying i will NEVER eat like that again!!! I definitly will...but soooo soon after surgery? I am exercising and LEARNING how to eat right. Then once i have learned what i need to do then I can slowly add anything I want. I wasnt questioning anybody...to each his own...just expressing my thoughts!!

I hear you Molly,it makes me cringe too. I am an aussie as you know, and My Dr has to be the strictest I've heard of so far. I am in week 8 and only just starting on soft food, after 2 of clear fluids,(I'm talking not even jelly or jello as you call it) 2 of full fluids and 2 of pureed baby straw sucking stuff and now soft and only slowly adding other foods. I can tell you my tummy still feels it when something is a bit dry. i couldn't have imagined eating pizza but, having said that, I do look forward to being able to have A piece and enjoying the best of both worlds.
    Cheers

I had a bad emotional eating week this week. I am 3 weeks 5 days post-op and have always had an eating disorder of some type. So I expected to have emotional issues from time to time. I ate ice-cream - several scoops for several nights. Now ice-cream is soft and goes down easily so I don't think there was any damage but the problem is that I have to change my mental attitude to food. And I am finding it challenging. If anyone is going through this - what do you do to stop you eating your trigger foods at night? Sheryl
