can any 1 tell me about hair loss, can it be avoided...

i here about the hair loss and wondered if that can be avoided, i dont have enough to start with. i think u need more fats, thought id try my cod liver oil to help with that , fish oils also very good for u and i think have vit D. has any 1 heard if they can take the fish oils or will u get sick ,dumpping ect.,.... ty

I've seen other posts recommending Biotin. I'm only on Day #3 Post-op, but I plan to start taking them as soon as I can start my vitamins.

yes i know of biotin, ive never taken it because being over 50 , i didt want to grow hair where i didnt want it like my chin. ty ill ask around about that...

I am in the same 'boat' as you--so biotin is out. Hopefully, with omegas and a good multi-vitamens, I won't have an major issue. However, I have already decided that if I do experience lots of hair loss--I am sporting a short an sassy haircut for a few months. With my luck it will fall out in the dead of winter

Most of the information posted stated the loss only lasts foe a few months and the hair does grow back...and thats the most important part.

Doing OK, I have muscle type pain on my lower left side so it's nearly impossible to get in and out of bed without help. Other than that, pretty good-getting fluids and protein in and doing lots of walking. Hope all goes well for you too!

Biotin will not have you growing hair where you shouldn't, Being over 40 and that happening would be due to your hormones or lack of the female hormones. so take a biotin and a multi and you will be fine. Also you can try to avoid the hair loss but sometimes just the stress of surgery on your body is what causes it and then in combination of the quick weightloss.

Ii had my surgery almost 5 months ago and have had no hair loss. I take Biotin every day, 7500mcg.

My surgery was 9 months ago and I have had almost no hair loss. I lost a little for about 3 weeks in month 4 then that's it. I've taken Biotin since day 1. No unwanted hair growth. I was also vigilant about getting in all my protein from day 1.

I wish it wasn't true! But it's a fact- your hair falls out! I started losing at 3.5 months, now at 8 months out its still falling out but maybe a little less
I have been taking evry pill u possibly could take 6 months prior & still taking.
My doc says they really don't know why it happens! Hang in there!

I have biotin, and a shampoo that my hair dresser recomended, but I have been told if your hair is gonna fall out it will fall out. Mine was starting to fall out over the stress I was having about surgery and thinking about my hair falling out. My hair dresser said as of right now I am fine, it just thinned it out. She didnt have to use the thinning shears this last hair cut.

I'm 5 months out and I have not had any hair loss at all. I don't take anything either. I was kinda hoping it would thin out a little so I wouldn't have to go every 2 weeks to get it thinned out, but it didn't.

I am almost 8 months out and I have experienced hair loss that started on 5 months post-op....I thank God I had thick hair to begin with so it's not noticeable to anyone but me....I have been taking Biotin 5,000 mcg since the 2nd month of my surgery....Here is something I found oin the internet about why hair loss happens after weight loss surgery...

Hair loss usually occurs in the fourth of fifth month following weight loss surgery. During the phase of rapid weight loss, caloric intake is marginal. This puts the body in a state of panic called starvation. Think about the pictures of prisoners of war. Most victims of this atrocity are without hair because they are literally starving to death. A healthy body normally sheds ten percent of hair follicles at any given time. When a body is starving roughly thirty to forty percent of hair follicles are sacrificed as the body channels nutrition to more vital areas. During this phase hair loss is dramatic, often patients find clumps of hair on the shower floor. Remaining hair becomes drab and lifeless.



Hair Loss
Hair loss associated with rapid weight loss is temporary. According to MayoClinic.com, resting hair follicles become active a few months after the shock occurs, resulting in new hair growth. However, it may take months for the hair to grow back in completely. Since hair grows approximately ½ inch per month, it can take quite some time for hair to recover fully from hair loss.

I am almost five months out of surgery, take krill oil, multivitamins and try to make sure that I have adequate protein. Noticed minimal hair loss, have mid length hair. I have noticed that my hair is a little thinner than it was pre surgery but at least I am not bald.........lol. Hoping that any loss will be minimal and that my hair will get thicker later as time goes by. I also use good shampoo and conditioner if thats of any help.
