    Default First Week Post-Op Diet

    Hey everyone!

So I was sleeved this past Monday (yay!) and while I'm very excited about my new journey, I do have some concerns:

Firstly, when I had my leak test, the liquid passed through really slowly. So, my Dr kept me in the hospital and repeated it the next day-same thing. So he released me on the clear liquid diet and I'll repeat the test next week after the swelling subsides (hopefully). So, maybe it's just me, but it's like my new stomach is a funnel. Maybe I'm taking too big of a sip or sipping too quick together or something, but I drank a sip of water, and it wouldn't go down today. I had to go to the bathroom and it came back up. I'm concerned because I don't want dehydration.

Also, since I'm doing clear liquids, I've been drinking the Isopure protein drinks and they are god awful! Literally I gag at the smell of them. I know things will get better with time, but right now I'm struggling yall. Suggestions??? Help!

Just had my surgery last week. I am drinking the Isopure clear. I think that tastes the best. I did not have a leak test but I find I do filll up quickly with fluid and if I drink too fast it goes right through me. I do find I am bored and get tired real easy. But I am already sick of liquids and am looking forward to next week when I can eat pureed food. Funny what we look forward to now

I had to take the teeniest tiniest sips the first week out, or else I would feel horrible pressure in my chest. A funnel is a perfect way to describe how it felt! The tiny sips helped a lot, and I just tried to take one every couple of minutes so I didn't dehydrate. I'm a little over a month out now and feel like I can sip pretty much normally, so it definitely helps. I haven't tried the isopure drinks, but I drink Fusion bariatric shakes...they're not awesome, but I can get them down and they have 27 g of protein per serving (31 if you make them with skim milk). Good luck to you!!

You really do not need to worry about protein intake your first few days as compared to just getting in liquids. SF popsicles were my lifesaver and they count as a liquid. Little sips...different temps to find out what your tummy can handle...good luck and keep us posted!

In the first week warm went down much better for me than cold. Hot decaf tea was my lifesaver.

Did you have a hernia repair as well? If so the swelling from that is what is making it so slow and if you feel pressure in your chest that is the cause as well. I was told it takes about 3-4 weeks for the swelling to go down and it has got better.

My dietician told me to put just a little bit of sugarfree flavor (4C drink mix) into the water to change the viscosity of the water and it would take a little longer to go through the stomach. My surgery is Monday so I haven't tried it yet. Hope it helps.
