    Default Popcorn

Ug, guys, I gave in and had about 2 cups of popcorn not last night but the night before. Since then, stomach ache...feels like it keeps contracting trying to get rid of the kernels. Any suggestions to get everything to move through? Feels terrible...

Oh, it may have been a bit too early for popcorn.... I eat it ok but I'm almost a year out....
I think you may need to use some milk of magnesia this weekend when it's convenient, it will move it out and coat things.

Lots of liquid to move everything through! Yes, it is a little early for popcorn - all those little tiny bits can get caught and irritate the staple line. My surgeon told me the staple line takes about 6 weeks to heal fully, and that's why I wasn't allowed any regular food until after that time. I can eat popcorn now with no problem to my stomach. I'm not sure that's a good thing though, I loves me my popcorn - LOL!

My dietician said NO popcorn, NO pizza and NO potatoes (only on special occasions, and I'm not sure about the sweet potatoes though).

Magnesia milk might help, sorry to hear that. today I had popcorn, just because i felt like it...now that i am reading about the regular foods and let 6 weeks for the stomach to heal, i think i will take it a bit easy. I had 2 weeks with the clear liquids, then half week with puree foods...then got feed up and started eating just whatever I want, the only thing that gives me a stomach ache is milk...I read that I can cause a leak n my new pouch, so i will start taking it easy.

    Hope you feel better soon

Did they give you an Rx Carafate after surgery that you might have some left? That is supposed to coat everything....I cant stand the taste so dont do it but they said it would help irritation.

Hey Melissa- I googled it because I google everything, and found a site that says that a warm soup sipped slowly can ease discomfort caused by a food that was poorly tolerated. There is a recipe for ginger and spinach soup that supposedly calms your stomach and detoxifies the body. Just an idea. And don't feel bad about eating the popcorn, sometimes you just gotta do what feels okay at the time. I learned a valuable lesson yesterday when I had a diet coke- one of the mini cans. It was delicious and I was a happy girl....for about 30 minutes. It didn't help that I drank it at 10pm, then I had to sit up for two hours before I could go to bed letting the bubbles very slowly work their way through my 'colonic geography' Every day has been a new lesson learned for me about what works and what doesn't. Sending good tnoughts your way!

Do you mean to help you go to the bathroom? If so, that would be great. If that's not what you meant, can you explain? Thanks.

You know, a baby's biggest challenge in the first year of life is learning how to eat and tolerate a variety of foods, from just liquids to solids. Gee, doesn't this sound familiar. I am 3 1/2 weeks out and am eyeing all sorts of things that I am just not ready to eat... at least my stomach isn't ready. I just keep going back to cottage cheese as it feels good in my belly and is certainly OK at this point. Patience is a definite asset on this journey. Just like babies, if the food choice is wrong, it will be evident, one end or the other (of the GI tract)!

LMS, no, I haven't even heard of that but will ask. Hopefully I won't be so dumb next time! Lol. Tricia, great analogy! I'm glad I was smarter with my kids when they were babies! Lol. Mary, thanks for the soup idea! Haha, I laughed at the idea of the explosion! You might be right! I took a sip of my son's root beer today and that was about all I could stand. Way too sweet but sometimes miss Coke. We went to see the new batman today and I didn't even have popcorn. Maybe in a few weeks. Feather, great idea! I know that might work for meats because we marinated steaks in a pineapple mixture and it made the outside kind of mushy. It wasn't a big hit. Lol. Thanks to you all for the information!

Well. I just think dieticians tell everyone that because they just don't want you to get back into old habits again and all those things is what got us in trouble to begin with. They say the honeymoon phase is gone at about 2 years out if we don't get into the habit of things now, after all we have eaten those foods most of our adult life and it is a hard habit to break. If my dietician knew what I was eating he would shoot me. I feel as long as I am losing weight I will continue to eat what I am eating and enjoy it. I just eat in small amounts. Popcorn is one of them. I just don't eat it as much as I use to. I could't believe I went to the movies last night and not one bit of popcorn and it killed me but I made it thru it and proud of myself. I usually avoid movies because of that but I need to train myself to pass on it but there will be times I will have my movie popcorn! I find it best to see a movie after you are too full from a protein dinner. What kills me is the smell of fresh popcorn at a movie as soon as you walk in. It gets to me quick full or not....LOL!
