    Default Tolerating beef

At what point did your doctors allow you to have beef or tell you when you can tolerate it? Mine is saying 6 mos and while I agree with steak and denser meats, i just dont get the ground beef part. If you can digest ground turkey and chicken, why not beef?

Idk... but a lot of people eat ground beef as soon as they get to soft proteins. You can try it and see how you do, just make sure it is lean.

I had steak 3 weeks out I just cut it real small and chewed it real good. I have also had a hamburger and meatball granted I don't finish but I have eaten them and no issues.

I have been eating beef for the last 5 months. At first I can only eat ground beef and stew meat. I have had steak recently. I just chew it really well. And didn't eat too much of it.

I never got into ground beef but I tolerate red meats so much better than chicken even 5+ months out!

I was sticking with fish and shrimp when i was on soft proteins, after about 2 months out i tried beef. Steaks, roast beef, bbq beef, just all beef, even jerky work well for me. Just has to be lean, regular ground meat burgers are sooo incredibly greasy tasting after surgery.
My after surgery tummy hates any type of chicken, turkey and eggs I end up very queasy and/or in pains after a few bites.
I can sometimes tolerate pork, but I mostly just stick with seafood and beef because its safe for me.

A few weeks ago I had a Thai Beef salad to die for. The beef was cut fairly thin and in small pieces. I think this has to go on a case by case thing but by all means ask your doctor/bariatric staff WHY they have this beef boycott. They may have a good reason for it.

My doc says you can have ground beef after 4 weeks and steak after 4 months. I'm about 3 1/2 months out now and in the last 2 weeks, I've eaten steak twice. Once was ribeye and the second was sirloin. I don't eat much. And when I say not much, I mean an ounce or less. I cut it very, very, very small and chew very well. Almost to where it is mush in my mouth. It was delicious and my tummy did tolerate it very well.

My surgeon suggests 6 mos out to start beef or any red meat and then in small amounts because it is harder to digest. Ground beef of course is a different texture. Steaks, stews, etc, the meat tends to be more dense and stringy. Just chew it super well!!!

I didn't like beef very much pre-surgery, but I tolerate it and like it better now. I ate brisket about 3 months out and it was the first meal I tolerated it very well, and have been having beef ( in small amounts) ever since. I don't enjoy eggs the way I used to before surgery, except for egg salad mixed w/little mayo. I loved salmon before, but not so much anymore. The taste buds do change!

Remember, the more rare the steak, the more tender it will be. So if you like your steak well done, that may be a good reason to wait. If you like it more on the rare side, I don't see why you would have to wait 5 months if you chew it really well. Just my .02
