My thoughts on the 2 wk liver shrink diet

I know that some Doc's don't require the whole two weeks, and even some that don't require it at all. But my Doc has me on a protein drink for breakfast and lunch and 4 oz. of lean protien and 1 cup of green veggie for dinner. I started mine 5 days early just to stop myself from eating everything that wasn't nailed down. I also stopped caffeine as he said he didn't want any caffeine for 2 weeks after surgery. That was 3 days of headache hell, for sure. But now it's not a problem. I'm not hungry like I thought I'd be, and when I am I know it's time for my drink. Plus I can have a fat free yogurt a 2 pm if I need it. The first couple of days food commercials made me a tiny bit sad, almost like losing a friend, but now I'm fine with it. My point being, I can't imagine having surgery and THEN dealing with all the "getting your brain right", suddenly eating little to nothing, no caffeine etc. That'd be terrible!! I was scared at first that suddenly dropping to 800 calories a day would make me a starving raving lunatic,with my still full-sized stomach, but it wasn't bad at all day 2 was WAY better than day 1, and day 3 WAY better than day 2. Plus, I lost 8 lbs in 6 days! I wasn't going to weigh myself at all but I got weighed at my pre-op appt. If I feel this great with this little food with a football stomach, my tiny banana stomach is going to be AWESOME!! btw, I feel lighter inside,not bloated, lots of energy and sleeping better! Do yourself a favor and shrink that liver! You'll feel better for having done it, and it gives your brain time to adjust!

i am so glad you posted this. I am supposed to start my diet Monday. I HAD so much anxiety about it until I read this, thanks! My diet will be for 3 WEEKS!!!

I started 5 days early, so almost as long for me! After the first couple of days, it's ok. Just tell yourself that soon you wont have a stomach to fill! Also, now is the time to stop the soda. I miss a nice cold diet coke! I won't miss all my back fat though...LOL

Great job! I did 2 weeks of liquids only before surgery and it was a great time to get my mind and body prepared for the difficult days and weeks following the surgery. Keep up the good work and good luck with your surgery.

I did and extended prep as well and apparently my liver had shrunk significantly. I found the liquid diet easier once I got into ketosis. It is good to nail down this liquid challenge so that you are not trying to figure it out later. I am on pureed food now and it sure tastes good?
