    Unhappy New member

    Hello everyone,
I am a new member and my surgery will be on 1st August 2012. I have to begin my pre op diet 4 weeks prior to surgery. I dont really know what to expect but i am a bit worried as it is getting closer. I dont think I will be able to stick to a liquid diet for 4 weeks and am panicking.

Usually such a long liquid diet is out of concern for liver size and condition....By sticking as close as you can to the liquid diet you will reduce the size of your liver, and lean out some fat that is marbleized through it. Just keep telling yourself its the only real way you can contribute to a successful surgery. The dr has to move your liver out of his way to perform the sleeve, and by following the diet you make the procedure easier for him and better for you...

You'll do great. The pre surgery diet was the hardest part for me practically....Good luck and keep us posted!

Odd... I weight only 15 pounds less... how tall are you? I'm required a 10 day diet. Ick. But! I got 2 different flavors of protien powder- chocolate and cookies and cream! So if I have to suffer threw it for 10 days, its harldy a price to pay to look great at my wedding. Think of the biggest reason you want to lose this weight! What I did (and I know its REALLY cheesy) is I took a picture of my head, cut it out, and put it on a picture of a reasonable body I want. (about a size 10). Every time I go to the refrigerater to snack, i see that stupid picture and walk away.... It helps!

My surgeon wants me to follow a 4 week pre-op liquid diet as well. Not happening... I wont do more than 2 weeks, its unrealistic. 2 weeks is more than enough!!!

    Hi Donna

dont doubt Yourself because your stronger then you think. Its not easy especially the first four days but just try and stay focussed and remember that your preparing your body for a life time change for the good. The vlcd diet is important as it reduces the size of your liver making it safer and easier for the surgeon to operate. I only was required to do vcld for 2 weeks but have gave myself a 8 week challenge. The way I see it is that it is an advantage as by the time my surgery comes around my stomach will be smaller and so the post op diet will be a breeze. Just try and stay motivated and think about how good you will feel and how good u will look at the end of this journey.
P.s. Ive dropped 4kg in the first week of the shakes.
    Starting Weight.........126kg
    Surgery Weight.........113kg
    Total Loss Pre Op......13 kg
    First Goal 110kg.......24/8/12
    Second Goal 99kg......14/10/12
    Third Goal 89 kg.....

You actually made me feel better. I will have my procedure Monday and I'm 4 days into my preop clear liquid diet and it's been very challenging for I don't know if I could do 4wks unless I could include at least some mushy foods. I miss chewing, something that helps me feel satisfied. You can do it just chat on here, keep busy, and think about how you'll be able to shop wherever you like without worrying about shopping for plus sizes.
