My BMI is FINALLY under 40!

OK, so it's 39.9! But my BMI is finally under 40, which has been a goal for me for the longest time. And yes, I'm still "obese", but this weight would technically make me too small to qualify for WLS on insurance. Gee, are they kidding? The BMI should be lowered for sure! The last time I was at this weight I was 4 month's pregnant with my son who is almost 12. Next mini goal: 50 pounds!

Hi Sunflower! Good Job! When I hit 232 my BMI also dropped out of the 40s, I guess we're about the same height, and we had surgery about the same time! I've been using all sorts of mini goals to keep me motivated, especially dropping into new 10 pound ranges but hitting 232 was another mini goal for myself! I have to say, it felt pretty awesome! :-).

Isn't it a great feeling? Who would think we'd be jumping for you to be considered "obese" instead of "morbidly obese!" I till really jump for joy when I'm considered "overweight" ... and even then when I get that low, I'll still be at too high a weight on the charts to be considered normal. There's something really screwed about this whole system, but that's what they go by. I'm supposed to be 154 to be considered "normal" and I was barely that when I graduated high school in 1976! I can't even imagine how I'll look then. BUT... I think we as individuals and as a society have had our "eyes" so screwed up as to what is really a normal weight for someone to carry. I know genetics and all other health factors aside... how we've been lulled into thinking super gigantic portions of food is "normal"... how we've been lulled into thinking 20-30 lbs over weight is no big deal. We've been de-sensitized as a society and take all these things as normal when they are in fact abnormal as to how human beings are really supposed to be. So too, given the fact we're so sedentary in our activity with tv, internet, games we play by the hours, especially our youth as they don't go outside much to play either. Oh well, you get the picture. Welcome to being under 40 BMI and here's to our journey. Good luck and keep us posted.
